MOVIE STRINGS
First shot at some cinematic sounds. The goal is for some versatile strings for scoring. Velocity in the lower octaves will bring in a timpani for extra impact. This is a work in progress so don't just download and run! Play around with it and give me some feedback so I can make it better.

Thick Strings

I needed a thick string sound. My favorite was from an old Alesis QS 6.1. So I got both the Alesis and the PX 5S together and kept adding stuff until I got what I needed, which was a stand alone sting sound. I did customize a hex layer so put it in first and everything should line up. I'm still pretty new to all this, I'll try and create the same file on the XW-P1.

This is something I've been playing around with for a while, and I finally think it's good enough to share. I've been trying to duplicate the Physical Modeling technology that Yamaha has in their VL line, particularly with the saxophone.
There is one important factor to a good keyboard sax that the PX5S doesn't do, and that's being able to limit the sound to one note at a time (monophonic). I used the arp and phrase to create a pseudo-monophonic response on the keyboard. It's a little tricky to play, as if you hit 2 or more notes everything after the first is ignored. So, you have to play staccato to play fast.
I also added a ring modulation for the "growl" effect. It works pretty well on most notes.
The most important controls are:
- Knob 1 will turn the DSP on or off. The sound activates with the DSP ON, so you'll want to move Knob 1 when you select the sound to turn it off.
- Modulation: The modulation has a slight vibrato AND tremolo to give a natural sound of throat vibrato.
- Slider 1: Breath pressure (Volume/Cutoff) for sax. I added a breath sound (using Breath ASax....Breath TSax was clashing with the main TSax) that isn't effected by this slider.
The EQ knobs (2,3,4) and Sliders 4,5,6 (Chorus, Delay, Reverb) effect both the sax and breath sounds. The DSP, Breath, Resonance, and Attack only affect the sax sound (not the breath).
I'll be interested to see what some people think. I'm not sure how practical this sound is for playing live, although I was able to get a decent approximation to the sax on Pink Floyd's "Money".
Note: Since I'm using the Phraser, the keys are not velocity sensitive. That's what Slider 1 is for.

Brass Trio

This Stage Setting uses three arpeggios on three zones to separate a tuba, trombone, and trumpet into the lowest, middle, and highest notes of a triad. Because it's an arpeggio, the main "gotcha" is that it repeats. However, the step size is set to be a quarter note to help minimize this effect. You can also press the sustain pedal and release the keys for a full sustain with no repeats.
The attached MP3 has a "before and after". The first sample is with the arpeggiator turned off. All voices are sounding on all notes in unison. The second sample is with the arpeggiator on, separating the instruments.
I chose brass sounds in response to an old post in the forums about the "more perfect brass section," but I'm sure there could be plenty of other applications!

I thought this was a fun patch to experiment with. If credit is due to using others patches/settings to make this in the forum, then "Thanks". I just modified someone else's settings they had probably previously submitted. I can't remember what I started with.
This has a light bell arpeggio with strings and brass to compliment. Thanks and have fun with it.
