Song Ready Stage Settings

Stage Settings for a specific songs.

  1. Let's Go - The Cars

There are two stage settings here that I switch between for verse and bridge rhythms (phrases). I set them in two adjacent stage settings to easily swap between the two. The only really important controller is Pedal 2, which is the start/stop for the phrase.
The MP3 is a quick sample of the different sounds in the setting and, admittedly, sounds a little cheesy without the rest of the band playing along.

  2. Waiting 4grl.zpf

Use these stage settings in order (Waiting 4grl, and Waiting 4 a2) to recreate this classic tune. Note the keys splits in the upper registers are the same in both stage settings just like the original song.

  3. Boulevard of Broken Dreams

The band wants to play Boulevard of Broken Dreams by Green Day. At the risk of sounding too much like we're trying to sound like the recording, I've put together a Stage Setting for this tune. There are two other files besides the Stage Setting file:
    - The ZPH is a drum track phrase for phrase slot 158. I originally had two of these to switch between verse and chorus, but I realized the only big difference is banging on the two crash cymbals on the eighth notes during the chorus. Figuring I can handle that manually, I left it out. Oh yeah, you can start it with Pedal 2.
    - The ZAR apreggio file contains only the expression CCs to give that heavy vibrato so prominent in the intro. I could have used an LFO, but then it wouldn't sync with the drum track/tempo. Thanks Brad Saucier for giving me the arpeggio control track recommendation! It uses arpeggio slot 100. I usually try to use high numbers to avoid slots that others may already have filled, but I forgot and already uploaded this one. Sorry! You'll probably want to change that in your Stage Setting.
    - I'm still unsure about the drum track file. I don't use a standard set so I can put the drums where I want them. If you hear anything besides a kick, snare, open hi-hat, and cymbals, you'll need JasonSet1 in drum slot 20.

  4. Ain't Nobody

This phrase is the notes in the arpeggio at the very beginning of the song "Ain't Nobody" by Chaka Kahn. It is a nine note phrase that I tried to space as evenly as possible in one 4/4 measure. This can be used in conjuction with the arpeggiator per the instructions on Page E-24 of the Tutorial. I suggest setting the tempo at about 200 in case that part of the data does not come together with this file. I will post a version of the JK Sweet stage setting (4-3) that refers to this phrase in the arpeggio. You may need to download this phrase into U-102 for the stage setting to work properly.
Added information: with this function, you only need to use one note to play the entire phrase. In this case, you need to play E flat 2 to play the pharse in the proper key and octave. That information should already be saved as part of the Stage Setting that I posted.

  5. See A ChanceLD

Lead sound for While You See a Chance
Also works for Fagen I.G.Y. if you take off the portamento.
Tried to put up a soundcloud demo but it was getting distorted on upload.

    I was trying to produce a "gong" tone, but this started to present itself and I had to follow through! Play your lowest G - G - E - E - G - G - D.

  9. Ridin the Storm Sawtooth Intro - REO Speedwagon

I made this sawtooth wave Stage Setting for the intro to Ridin the Storm Out by REO Speedwagon. This should get you through the entire intro of the song. To perform the intro, I was starting by adjusting the resonance on slider 2 to get right level of nastiness before play. I then hit the low A note and slowly adjusted slider 1 for cutoff to get the nastiness too sweep. I set slider one to max out at the right spot. BTW: I have chorus on the mod wheel if you like to add some move it all the way up. Portamento will sweep you up to the next high C note but to turn around and bend back down to the high A you'll need to use the bender wheel. I set the bender to stop at the right spot. Then adjust slider one back down to lower the cutoff and then release the note to fade out.
    I hope you enjoy.

  10. Take On Me

This is an attempt to copy the synth sound used by A-ha for the lead line in their song "Take On Me". Fortunately I had a sample of the sound for my Nord that I could dissect as opposed to trying to pull it from the song track. Spent a lot of time with the data editor for the PX-5S to create this, particularly the Hex Layer editing section, working with the wave forms and the filter and amp sections including the envelopes. The PX-5S has an amazing set of tools available for this kind of task...there are several paths one can take to mimic these kinds of sounds...it will be up to your ears to decide which way you like best. I am also downloading the phrase for the lead line which you can then use for this setting. I would be happy if some one comes up with a way to improve this setting, or better yet, creates settings or tones for the many other sounds from this synth-rich song. Maybe we can assemble one Stage Setting to cover all of them...
P.S. Per Wikipedia, this sound was originally created using a Roland Juno 60 MIDI'd up to a Yamaha DX7.
