  1. In a Stage Setting that only has 1 zone active (such as 0-0) go into Edit -> Stage Setting -> Zone Edit -> MIDI Edit and change Generator Out to Off. This turns off the internal sound generator for that zone, but will still send MIDI data.
  2. Available to download here: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/1-px-5s-v110-stage-settings/
  3. One suggestion for auditioning downloaded stage settings is have one stage setting on the PX5 you are willing to write over, something you think you'll never use. Keep that one as the place you load in the downloaded sounds to audition them. The factory presets are available in the downloads section anyway, so you won't lose anything by writing over the top of any presets. You're definitely in the right place if you're feeling lost and confused! Also join the Facebook group (in Scott's signature above), plenty of people there to help you along - everyone was in the same position as you at some point.
  4. Perhaps the PX-780 might be a better fit for you? Offers all the features of the PX350 but in the nice cabinet with the powerful speaker system (same as PX850) - and a line input. You do however lose the lift up lid, and the "design your own piano" features (adjustable hammer response, adjustable resonance and lid simulator) but you do gain the line input, plus a whole load more tones and rhythm patterns. It's a question of which features are most important to you.
  5. The PX5S has the AiR sound source which uses Casio's Lossless Audio Compression technology, whereby the samples are compressed, however when played are then un-compressed with no reduction in sound quality. So what you hear is identical to the original sample, as if it was never compressed in the first place.
  6. Hi danielk Can you just clarify how you have the iPod connected? Part of your explanation above isn't quite clear, and suggests you've tried multiple ways of connecting. The only way to do this is headphone output of the iPod connected to Line In of the AP650 with a 3.5mm stereo -> 2x 1/4inch Y cable Double check you're connected to Line In on the piano, not Line out - it can be easy to mix these up when plugging things in underneath the piano.
  7. Other than the two methods you are already trying to avoid (manually through the function menu, or switching off and on again) maybe you could set up a registration which is Grand Piano, with transpose/octave shift at 0 and use that as your "default" to change back to. From there you can then choose any tone you wish and the transpose/octave shift will still be at 0.
  8. Hi Stephen The WAV files need to be placed in the "Audio" folder on your USB. They also need to be named "TAKExx.wav" with xx being numbers from 01 up to 99 You may find the audio files you've created will need to be dropped in volume by about 20-30% for them to be at a reasonable volume to play over the top of when playing back through the AP-650. Unfortunately on this model you can't control the volume of the audio file playback on the piano, so you'll need to have this set before hand. To play the Wave file: 1) Have USB plugged in 2) Press the AUDIO RECORDER button as many times as needed until the light is solid (not flashing) 3) While holding the FUNCTION button, press the AUDIO RECORDER button 4) Use the Up/Down arrow buttons to choose which file you wish to play - the numbers here correspond to the last two digits of the file name (TAKExx) 5) Press Play - away she goes!
  9. Hi David I've now had a chance to sit in front of an AP450 to suss this out. Step 3 in the manual where it says "Press the Song Recorder button until its lamp is lit" to be clear means "Press and HOLD the Song Recorder button until its lamp is lit (solid)" Once you do that, the Song Recorder light will be solid, the track you have selected to delete will be flashing, and the other track light will be off. Now while holding Function, press the Song Recorder button to delete the track.
  10. Set Bank MSB to 112 Bank LSB to 36 Program is the number of the stage setting you want to call up. (00 - 99)
  11. Hi areaman Also note that the "Navigation Channel" is where you can choose which track of the MIDI file the keyboard will use to light up keys / show the notes on the screen. Check page 34 of the manual for how to change this if needed.
  12. Hi David BradMZ is correct. The flashing track is the one that is selected. At the end of your video you needed to press Song Recorder again, so the light is solid, not off. After that while holding Function, Press the Song Recorder button to delete the selected track.
  13. Hi David I'm glad you've had some success. In that video it seems that you've pressed only the Play button on it's own rather than pressing Play while holding the Function button. If you don't hold Function before you press Play, the piano will play back whatever has been recorded to the internal Song Memory, rather than the Audio Wave file from the USB. This is what you heard playing back in that video. As for selecting which song you want to play back, yes the original manual was somewhat misleading and has been amended to reflect that once you have selected a song using + / - , you then need to start the song by holding the Function button and pressing Play. In terms of whether this process makes sense or not, I'll pass that feedback through. There has at least been an update to the manual with the changes we have been talking about here. Please refer to the updated manual here: http://support.casio.com/en/manual/008/AP450_EN.pdf With descriptions of what has been updated in the manual listed here: http://support.casio.com/en/manual/008/AP450_LEAF2_EN.pdf
  14. Hi David I'll put a video together when I get a chance. We do have a lot of videos on how to perform different operations, unfortunately we haven't done this one yet. Note above where I have said the lights should continue to flash, I was incorrect there and have edited the above post. In the mean time here's a step by step 1. With USB inserted, press [AUDIO RECORDER] button so that the orange and red lights next to "Song Play/Stop" light up to indicate Audio Mode is on. (if you have only just plugged the USB in, the L/R lights may flash for a few seconds while the USB drive is loading - don't press anything if this is happening, just wait until the Song Play/Stop lights come on) 2. Press the [sONG RECORDER] button as many times as needed so that the Song Recorder light is solid. (Usually just 1 press, but depends on what mode this was in prior to you performing this operation) 3. Audio recording will now begin automatically when you begin to play. the Song Recorder light will flash a few times to indicate Audio Recording has started. 4. When finished your playing, press [AUDIO RECORDER] button to stop the recording. The Orange and Red "Song Play/Stop" lights will flash a few times to indicate the file is being saved - wait until they stop flashing. 5a. If here you wish to immediately play this file back - while holding the [FUNCTION] button, press the [sONG PLAY/STOP] button. or 5b. If you wish to choose a different file to play back, while holding [FUNCTION] button, press the key that corresponds with "Song Select + / -" to move up or down 1 song file at a time. You will hear a beep to indicate the change in song playback. Now while holding [FUNCTION] press [sONG PLAY/STOP] to start the playback. or 5c. To record another audio file, simply begin playing again to engage the recording. Go back to step 3 once finished. 6. When finished in Audio Mode, press [AUDIO RECORDER] to exit audio mode for normal piano play. Again, it's best to think of the [AUDIO RECORDER] button as a mode switch between audio mode on, and audio mode off, as opposed to a button that needs to be pressed in a sequence to perform the operation. If you come to the piano only wanting to play back a file, and not record, do step 1, then step 2, then step 5b. I hope this helps straighten it out,
  15. Hi David This is the important part: The initial manual wasn't too clear in respect to that, when it says "Press Audio Record" - you may already be in Audio Record mode and hence not need to press that button to perform the operation. Pressing Audio Record again would exit audio record mode - this is what is happening in your first video. (Those were a great help in finding the problem - thank you for posting) The manual has been updated - if you see this version it's a little more clear with some additional text added in on page 18-19. http://support.casio.com/en/manual/008/AP450_EN.pdf Bear with me - as I'm not in front of an AP-450 right now, but I'll have a chance to first thing tomorrow morning (West. Australian Standard time) to just double check a few things, and then I'll translate it a bit more clearly.
  16. Hi David The Lights should continue to flash as you record. (edit - not in Audio mode - they will only to continue flashing when recording to the internal piano memory, not when recording Audio to USB) You say sometimes the Song Recorder light comes on, some times it doesn't - this button cycles through three modes: Piano in normal play mode (ie no recorder, no song playback) - light is off. Record mode - light is flashing Song Playback mode - light is solid. Each press of the Song Recorder button will continue to cycle through these three modes, so depending on what mode the piano is already in, will change how many times you need to press it to get to your desired mode. The Audio Record button is similar, pressing this on it's own when a USB drive is inserted cycles between Audio mode on, and Audio mode off. (Both lights above the Song Start/Stop button light up solid for Audio mode on) Have you tried using a different USB drive? It is possible the drive may be corrupt. If you are getting different lights flashing to what the manual says, check page E-33 to see if you're getting an error message indicator. Here's a video showing the audio record and playback function which hopefully helps. (edit: Video removed - some information was incorrect.)
  17. Unfortunately the PX-750 cannot record user midi files internally. You can only transfer them as the Casio format .CSR If you want to create MIDI files the best option is to use a midi sequencing program (eg Garageband/Mixcraft) with the piano connected via USB as your midi device. The MUSICLIB folder is where you can transfer already existing MIDI files in to the piano's internal memory for playback.
  18. David The manual is correct, for the layer balance the two tapering off triangles you mention are separate to the diagram of the keyboard above it. The diagram of the keyboard shows the two notes to use while holding the function button. As for deleting the recording, you can delete only one track at a time. Here's what it says to do: 1) Press the Song recorder button until the Song Recorder light is flashing 2)While holding the Function button, press Song Recorder to choose which track to delete. The track you select (L or R) light should also be flashing as if you were about to record to it. 3) Press the Song Recorder button until the song recorder light goes solid. 4) While holding the function button, press the Song Recorder button to delete the track. I think you're getting to step 2, with the left track on, and right track blinking. Follow through the rest of the procedure and you should be all set. The manual can be tricky to decipher at times, probably the most helpful page is E-22 as this shows the functionality of all the keys, particularly for the functions that aren't labelled on the piano. Ask away any other questions you have, there's plenty of other users who may be able to help as well - that's what the forums are for.
  19. When you layer two tones together, you choose the first, then the second tone. Holding the function button and pressing the highest F key on the piano will balance the layer heavier towards the first tone, and holding function while pressing the highest F# key will balance the layer towards the second tone. You can either press the note repeatedly to get your desired balance (about 15 steps I think from memory) or just hold it down until the beeps stop. (All while holding the function button)
  20. The modulation (and rotary) button function is set by the DSP effect. It can only control parameters from the DSP effects. Within the DSP Edit menu there is Mod Button Assign, and Off/On value. Check there to see what it's set to, or to assign it to a different DSP parameter. If no DSP is active, the button won't be doing anything.
  21. Oops - AlenK is correct - a chain can have 99 'steps'. I was thinking of how many chains you can save - which is 100.
  22. A chain lets you join any pattern from any sequence to any pattern from any sequence. Each chain 'step' allows you to specify how many bars to play the chosen sequence/pattern for, and also what key to play it in. You can have a maximum of 100 'steps' in your chain. As a side note, you can also export a chain as a MIDI file. And yes, your instincts are correct by pushing the pattern button to correspond with which pattern you want to work on.
  23. Hi all I was in a store today and helped with a demo on the PX-5S for a customer in this particular store. The guy was after a stage piano with a nice acoustic piano tone and rhodes style electric piano - that was pretty much all. PX-5 of course had no troubles there, but what really made the difference in this case was that he could plug his laptop that he uses for backing tracks into the line input, and assign volume control of the input to one of the knobs. This meant he could eliminate extra gear (a mixer, extra cabling) for his gigs - perfect! This got me wondering - what was the one feature (if you can choose only one!) that made you decide "yep - the PX-5S is the new 'board for me!"
  24. Hi Akiak After you record the wav file, are you able to play it back straight away through the PX350? ie before you remove the USB drive.
  25. You can bounce your recording down to a wav file - Put the song recorder in playback mode, and choose which song you want to bounce down to wave file - Press Audio Recorder button twice so the light is flashing ready to record (with USB drive inserted of course) - Press Start/Stop Let your song play through all the way. When finished press Audio Recorder to stop the recording. It will now be on your USB drive as a .wav file (TAKEXX.wav)
