  1. Just refreshed my tabs from this forum and this time I got: I had only two tabs open from this forum at the time of the refresh. The URL was: this one exactly. Maybe this will help you find the problem in the server logs.
  2. My observation on how to relatively easily reproduce the stall problem on this forum: Select the Activity->Unread Content page Scroll to the bottom and keep hitting "Load more activity" until no more is available Right click to open each thread link in the background tab Don't wait for the tabs to finish loading and don't read them Keep doing item 3. until all unread thread loads are initiated in the background Wait until tab loading activity ceases You'll end up with most of the tabs loaded properly and some of them stalled early in the HTTP protocol without loading any content. I usually just force STOP on those tabs and then force RELOAD. The reloads usually complete without problems, only rarely I had to force reload more than once. The above is my usual process of reading discussion forums, I sometimes end with about 100 of open tabs with threads from many forums that could take more than a day to read, depending on the available time. This allows me to work offline/disconnected on a laptop that goes to suspend/hibernation without losing the place on some very active forums. This procedure works for most of the forum engines, but on some it trips the anti-DDoS protection or gets bogged down somewhere in the queue of half-open connections. I wouldn't dream of complaining about an occasional stall, it doesn't bother me. But it may be helpful for you to reproduce the problems that are otherwise hard to pinpoint.
  3. You should first try the free one application. And don't wait for the Casio, use it with your Yamaha DGX, it also has USB TO HOST. There's nothing specific to Casio that we are describing here. Disabling Local Control and doing MIDI loopback is a generic solution known to thousands of people and used for many decades. I use exactly same Linux application on both of my Casio and Yamaha. The only difference is that when playing with Yamaha I use it to lower the volume of the various channels in the accompaniment (9-15), since the styles on the Yamaha are much more busy aurally, which isn't easy for beginners like myself to understand harmonically. The app I use was designed by somebody sometimes in the middle of the 1990 decade.
  4. In addition to what @Chandler Holloway had said: the machine always boots with Local set to On and AcompOut to Off . So you always want to start with changing both of them. I never had to change Keybd Ch from the default value of 1. Then all the channel numbering stays at the default. So you get: Upper1 layer Upper2 layer Lower layer If you use auto-harmonizer your Upper 1 layer is harmonically extended on the channel 5 with 1 to 4 notes. The machine takes care of switching the instruments on all channels correctly, so far I had no reason to duplicate anything either manually or programmatically. E.g. if you enable LAYER (meaning you want to play both U1 and U2) the machine will send Note-Ons and Note-Offs on both channel 1 and 2; if you enable SPLIT your left portion of the keyboard (the L layer) the machine will send Note-Ons and Note-Offs on channel 3 if you play below the split point. All I had to do is to change the volume levels in the MIDI mixer. Internally MIDI channels are numbered from 0 not from 1. For example in the default piano tone that consists of StagePno MelwStr1 & AcousB1 the upper layers completely drown the bass on the lower layer. Therefore I need to send 4 Control Change Volume messages like that: B0h 07h 2Fh -- that is Stage Piano in U1 B1h 07h 2Fh -- this is Mellow Strings 1 in U2 B2h 07h 7Fh -- this is Acoustic Bass 1 in L B4h 07h 2Fh -- this is again Stage Piano in U1 when auto-harmony is added This sets the acoustic bass level to the maximum of 127 and the stage piano and mellow strings to much lower 47. This message is described in the manual I linked earlier on page 8 item 7.5. Thus far it all worked for me without any trouble. The only problem I encountered is that pressing the PIANO/ORGAN button re-enables Local to On and I had to remember to change it back to Off .

  6. I wouldn't really know. It was in November and I don't recall the details, I was focused on what I was doing trying to understand another instrument. I'm positive they were successful because they thanked me before they left the room to complete the purchase. Like other people I know that this can be done because I tried it with a large MIDI sequencing application. But I bought my instruments with explicit requirement that they need to be usable for lessons/practicing without a computer or any sort of permanent network connection. I will post the required MIDI codes as soon as I get my Casio back. Currently it is at a friend's place.
  7. No, unfortunately no. I personally don't use any of the modern Android/iOS devices. Due to historical and backward compatibility requirements I'm stuck with very old versions of those. As far as modern systems I only use Linux and some proprietary software. I did describe the underlying process of looping back the MIDI stream to some teenager at the music store when he was shopping there with his mom. Within about half and hour he was able to find the appropriate app named something like "MIDI wrench" or "MIDI pipe" or something similar that to me sounded like a street melee weapon 😉 . I spoke with them in English but that wasn't their native language, thus the relevant Apple App store may have been from another continent. But this overall issue is something that I'm going to research much deeper. It seems like nearly universal workaround for the limitations of many modern MIDI instruments, no matter who is the manufacturer. I'll post more when I collect more information.
  8. I'm not from Casio, but I toyed in the store with the CTK-2550 and CTK-3500. Those models don't have any writable internal storage. No MIDI recorder/sequencer, can't upload additional lesson songs or accompaniment rhythms. All the more advanced functionality relies on the connectivity to the external application. If it wasn't for CT-X700/800 models I would've rather bought one of the LK models that support the SD cards for storage. If you can stomach always playing with the tablet/phone connected via the USB then you can use an external MIDI app to adjust the levels of layers/splits on the CT-X 700 and 800. Given your requirements and playing experience you should rather look at CTK-6250. It has all that you ask for. It wasn't for me, because I absolutely need the built in lesson functionality that these models lack.

    For Yes Fans

You are excused 😉 . To me it was obviously Brazilian Portuguese. Speaking of confusions: the first time I saw somebody playing Tokai grand piano I thought it was Hungarian. The only mental association I could make was with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokaj_wine_region and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokaji 🍷🍷.

Why would you use Russian? Tokai is a Japanese brand: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tōkai_Gakki that split off of Kawai long time ago. They abandoned making pianos a while back. Apparently their Brazilian resale network was big enough to support re-badging some usual-suspects OEM keyboard brands (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fatar ) for the Portuguese-speaking portion of the Latin American market ( http://www.tokai.com.br/ ). I think correct Portuguese pronunciation would be the same as English.
  11. I think that even commercial reproduction of the built-in instrument styles will be OK, provided that you don't infringe the "right to publicity" of the original vendor. Take for example a lineup of synthesizers from a certain... y... vendor 😉. They openly advertise them as having sounds of the vintage "Rd" "Wr" "Clv" instruments. This has been tested in courts to not infringe on the rights of Rhodes, Wurlitzer & Hohner Clavinet, whoever owns those brands nowadays. Other synthesizer from the same family sports: H, American tonewheel organ V, British transistor organ F, Italian transistor organ A, Japanese transistor organ You can google (or bing) the actual names yourself. The sampled grand piano segment is full of references to "American grand" (Steinway made in Astoria,NY) , "German grand" (Steinway made in Hamburg), "Italian grand" (Fazioli), etc. Only Ravenscroft breaks out of this mold by explicitly licensing its name. Little bit of creativity (musical & technological) plus some time spent with a thesaurus will cover you quite well.
  12. We don't know your skill level with computers. Can you follow the instructions of this guy?
  13. https://www.casio-intl.com/asia/en/emi/ https://www.casio.com/products/electronic-musical-instruments You really have to research this yourself, we don't know your budget nor your skill level nor the attitude of your teacher. By the way: the top of the line Casio lighted key instrument is currently only available in Japan. https://casio.jp/emi/products/lk511/ So don't feel rushed, wait at least couple of weeks for the Winter NAMM 2019 to end.
  14. I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I'm not talking about "songs", I already downloaded them. I'm talking about the exercises. They are numbered from 111 to 160. They have titles like this: Exe 1-1 to Exe 1-16 Exe 2-1 to Exe 2-17 Exe 3-1 to Exe 3-17 They are good for learning fingering and sight reading (if there was sheet music available). This would really help learning both at the same time.
  15. Williams & Yamaha have it available as a songbook for download. Kawai sells it separately, but the titles are known. Can someone at Casio help us beginners? Or if they are well-known maybe somebody who recognized them by ear at least post the titles?
  16. OK, Ladies & Gentlemen! Here's my workaround for this problem with low-end CT-X machines. It is the same workaround that I use for similar problems with low-end PSR-E machines. 1) Set your instrument to MIDI->Local->Off 2) Use any external application that allows you to loopback the MIDI messages. You can also send other MIDI messages that are impossible to produce using the front panel of your instrument. Since I use Linux, making the loopback is trivial: $ aconnect 20 20 Maybe the users of the payware operating systems will be willing to share their favorite choices for the application that can do MIDI the loopback. Although the low-end Yamaha PSR-E363 do have mixer functions for the main/dual/split voices (U1/U2/L in Casio-ese) it doesn't have the similar functionality for the accompaniment styles, and vast majority of their styles are too sonically complex for the beginning student. At least Casio had thought of this problem and provided the Lesson->Plain_Accompaniment function available from the front panel. Basically, both Casio and Yamaha nowadays play from the same business songbook of market segmentation. Only the lowest-end models provide the lesson/educational aids. Even the smallest step up in the functionality is matched by removal of the teaching functionality. Compare CT-X{7,8}00 with CT-X{3,5}000; the list of differences aligns quite well with the differences between PSR-{E363,EW300} and PSR-{E463,EW410}. In the past Yamaha used to offer the Educational Suite in their PSE-E4x3 models, but nowadays it is replaced with the enhanced functionality for DJ-ing. I didn't research the available teaching aids in the older Casio's product families. I'm just hoping that none of the manufacturers with come with the business idea of actually disabling that functionality in the tone generation chips in the future updates.
  17. You are indeed right. They are correct now. Looking at the timestamps of the files downloaded on my computer, they were swapped earlier this month. I had to wait after registration on this forum before my posting privileges were enabled. I composed this post earlier and neglected to double-check the situation today for the possible changes. I triple checked right now and the situation is correct: the lower-numbered-model page links to the larger file and vice versa, the higher-numbered-model page links to the smaller file. The last thing you may want to change is to add a reference to CT-X800 into the pages referring to the CT-X700. Near to where I live 700-s are sold out and 800-s are the hot selling doorbusters right now, going for the same price as 700-s at the beginning of the month. Thanks again and sorry for the confusion.
  18. Please fix the links to the songbooks. Both here on http://www.casiomusicforums.com/ and http://support.casio.com/ they are pointing to the wrong editions. I downloaded all of them and compared them with my CT-X800 and with the manuals for the other ones. They are swapped: what is marked as CT-X700 songbook is in fact 30 songs book for CT-X3000/CT-X5000 and vice versa: the one marked for CT-X3000/CT-X5000 is actually the 110 songs book edition that matches CT-X700/CT-X800. The LESSON feature and the associated Song Book are important selling points for those keyboards. I don't think that there exist any reason for hiding them from the buyers.
