  1. A major 7th chord uses this move imo.Sometimes I look for what kills the harmonic feeling the best and this is it imo. It is used in the chicken reel and the pink panther theme.Kinda says it is good for cartoon sounds.Kind of a "stop the presses '' feeling
  2. ok I found a bit to help but still don't understand how to really get the controllers rocking things..The master slider and the one next to it changes the depth and rate of the lfo.
  3. So I find a violin tone and edit in the Dsp effect (tremolo) .In the edit box to get the modulation to change tempo rate I found LFO rate would do the trick. For this to be any use as a preset it would require an easy adjustment of this rate. One should not have to go into edit each time . With all of those assignable knobs it should be a breeze .I just spent 2 hours ,looking at the manual both user and the so called midi appendix. along with Allen's book.I drew a blank. Casio has sync features and tap tempo so they surely recognize the need. Just a simple control change number for a DSP rate ,???? thanks from not a nerd
  4. thanks Brad--i just found arp. ranges under perform -edit -sequence
  5. I use the on board editor and do my own presets in all modes -but I can't get the arpeggiator to recognize just a limited range or just one zone--I do this stand alone no computer hooked up=thanks anyway
  6. I understand and use zones in performance and tones in tone .I also use the hex layers. I am wanting to have a bass for a couple of octaves on the left that--the arpeggiator sounds on --but it will be off on the rest of the keys --It seemed it was all the keys or none --no matter their zone or range settings within the zones--I could be wrong though--thanks
  7. Do you guys have any idea how to do a partial keyboard with this. Some presets are that way but I would like to be pointed to where I can set it--if possible..thanks Tom
  8. https://youtu.be/fQdrxUWi0pcwith banjo and stand alone effects --I know ''not a regular" maybe this winter
  9. I agree about being afraid to hook up for data updates etc.. It sounds like one bad move and the keyboard gets buried on boot hill. I sometimes hit the wrong buttons.
  10. Didn't work Brad. however I punched around to different performances and found some that worked .Instead of digging deeper in comparison viewing I will just put the tones I want in these
  11. Thanks guys the notes I am not getting are ones the module is not picking the ones up. The XW does fine as usual. When I go to the studio I will have a look at that key shift,I will holler back either way
  12. I have had my XW p1 for a year and use it a lot.love it. I also have an old CTK 691 . I have been using the 691 to access my 20 year old roland JV 1010 sound module. Yester day I tried using the XW instead to mix the JV sounds with the XWs. Anyway the XW only plays the notes from the highest down about 3 octaves. I tried resetting ranges in performance mode and octave shifting to no avail. I went to settings then midi but found nothing that seemed helpful. Any advise would be appreciated.Tom
  13. You might try grabbing another performance that lights up the piano category, once there punch edit , in the parameters of the first zone ,drop down 1 to the tone select.Pull up the same tone and see if it is still out. I have a feeling not. Some of the bells and whistle settings in the performance can cause this ,I think it happened to me once
  14. For syncing 1 first i slow both tracks down to half speed but not octave correction .Octave correction takes too much computer time 2 I chop both tracks on the very same notes . 3 return to full speed 4 observe number of duration frames on the leftmost sections of each track 5The longer one will need cutting again .,calculate the difference .Whatever the number is ,you then set cursor to that number and cut the track again.Clear to the left, then hold control as you mouse pull the leftover of the track to the start position .You will have to do that again with the same track's other part. If you ever get adobe I can likely do a screen vid of me doing this Yep I always called doc's Black Mt. Rag the Foggy Mt .Breakdown of flatpicking. I never could get that flat pick going.I am built more for the keys, but waited about 30 years too late on them ha ha. I like my XW a lot but mostly I just grab a performance or if it is a tone I want scroll performances until ,the tone category i want is lit. Then i push the tone button and choose the correct tone .Of course some times I do this by editing the performance. A lot of times I have to go there to set the range. Lately I figured out winding the release button to the left cleaned up my fast organ and ensemble leads.Mostly a newby but I can sidestep the advanced pretty good at this point. The first synth for me,sure love that. Casio is all i ever had,but I have a roland Jv 1010 which has nice stuff.I push this with my ctk 691. For my own use I like the waterfall keys on the ctk,not that I would want the XW to have them. For practice purpose I find it easier to punch in a rhythm or record a song section on the ctk.Hooked up to the XW the XW tags along ha ha. I can even use it's instrument tones to some degree gotta run.
  15. thanks guys Jokey the first question is easy an older gibson arch top .Gibson mastertones are the standard for comparison for the'' 3 finger with picks crowd''. A lot of my recording is done with old stand alone stuff. I set my old tascam to midi clock out to run the hidden drum machine for a click track ,play the banjo and record that, then start stacking the tracks. The recorder can hook to the PC but I usually do most of the mixing by ear then burn to a CD for transfer. The Cd goes to the laptop then. The vid is done with a low definition camcorder that can hook up to the computer for transfer later. The sound on the camcorder is used for syncing with aforementioned mix then deleted because it is of no quality in comparison. When everything is in the computer I do the mixing ,syncing etc. of the project with Adobe premiere elements and save to an MP4,which you tube takes. What folks use for this stuff is usually a DAW . I have never progressed into that yet.Too much money ,too much learning curve. I just got over getting used to the musical taste of the guys that made the presets for my XW ha ha thank to you both Tom ps how I learned,I lived and slept banjo for 40 years.I am a slow learner
  16. It's been awhile since I had one for here.Loving that XW now that I know how to get to where I want .https://youtu.be/YxAOrHwe_RU the solo piano is at the end.I have only been going for leads on the keys a couple of years thanks for looking .Hope to get a like or 2
  17. Metal picks.I like the leslie effect my Lexicon has for now, thanks
  18. The footage was probably the internet archive or flickr creative commons class thanks. Probably the XW for the accordion.I like the reed organ sometimes
  19. nice great dynamics, which is one of my weak points. Cool chords whatever they are
  20. nice I play it on banjo, but not the keys yet,Benny Goodman's version got me hooked on this
  21. For years one of enjoyments has been ,laying a tune to a click track(set tempo).I then apply the usual effects by doing the math and syncing them by hertz or milliseconds.Of course tap tempo is used also. With my XW ,I have been running my banjo into the instrument in ,then routed to the solo sync exterior block. At this point I get to use the available filters as effects.I am very much a newbie at this.As far as the other effects,I have a couple of stand alone units that do these already .I put this forth for suggestions on other ideas ,if anyone can stand to be known as a participant in this ha ha. The xw p1 is used for all tones here besides banjo.I have a lexicon that I like it's rotary effect and a behringer virtulizer also doing an LFO filter envelope. The effects are not manipulated in and out much,I need to get to that. On the XW,I probably was using total filter.and amp envelopes with shot in the dark settings and clock sync,As I said anything to find a bit of variety is welcome
  22. great sounding music.wonderful progression
  23. Two weeks ago I never had a clue what portamento was in relation to synths,so this little excursion is definitely green.I have been stacking tracks with midi clock and stand alone equipment for years . I was inspired by Earl type playing, but I have no desire to copy what he did . There are those of great dexterity for sure. Music can be great in other ways for us mere mortals. You never see BB wearing a pick out ,but he is fun to spend some time with also.
