  1. Billie Jean by Michael Jackson V05 View File Hello I see there are a lot of song-ready stage settings for the PX-5S, but not so for the XW-G1 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ So, here's my take at making a song-ready performance/step sequence for the XW-G1 to make up for that imbalance. This my first attempt at doing so, and what you have here is perhaps a bit preliminary in the sense that it isn't complete. However, this is just the first "draft". If you like it, please tell me - and I might improve it at some point I have included 3 files in this upload: BILLIEJE.ZPF - Performance File BILLIEJ5.ZSS - Step Sequencer File and Billie Jean by Michael Jackson for Casio XW-G1.WAV - Sound Example (in the perfomance, the step sequence is placed in U: 2-2) (in the Sound Example I play the melody on my PX-5S) Below is a short video, that demonstrates in what order the different patterns of the step-sequence typically are activated: Cheers! 2. Hi I just got a red guitar strap for my CT-S1 for the purpose of trying out, what it is like to play the instrument in a more freely way. It takes some practice getting use to play a keyboard in this vertical position, instead for the normal horizontal one. But, it is quite fun to just play your favorite songs this way. The video below is just a demontration, and a such, it isn't perfect. - So, please bear with the shortcommings. Thanks. Jay ๐ŸŽน Please note, that the first part of the video is silent. Sound is introduced subsequently.
  3. Ok, Thank You. I guess, I found the one of the limits of what's possible with PX-5S, huh? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Although I read through the midi documentation for this instrument, and searched the interwebs for an explanation on how to do this, I had a feeling that I was asking for too much, in terms of technical capabilities. So, I am glad I can stop looking ๐Ÿ˜Š Jay๐ŸŽน
  4. Wow, that is a long title. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ What I mean by it, is that I want to know, whether I can set up one of the knobs, via the stage setting, on the PX-5S, to dynamically alter the program number, that is sent out in a program change message to an external instrument? I have already learned at a stage setting can send a one program change message, when that stage setting is selected. I just want to ad the functionality, for the user, to change the value in that program change message with a knob turn, instead of having to go in to the menus. I wonder if it is done by sending a RPN or NRPN? Jay๐ŸŽน
  5. Ok, I have to answer that one You see, I picked a midi file containing an excerpt from, and you're right, Night Birds by Shakatak, because the first Casio keyboard I had (as a kid) had this song as a built-in demo-melody. I loved that demo and played it many times back then. Of course, being a kid I did not know, that the melody I loved was a real song from a real band. I learned that much, much later. So, it all connected now - past and present, you see. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Jay๐ŸŽน
  6. Hi I made this video to demonstrate that it is possible to have the CT-S1 sound other tones than the default Stage Piano tone using midi. This is accomplished by sending midi program change-messages and bank select-messages. Through sheer experimentation, and because I wanted to get the full potential of this instrument and thus became very stubborn, I learned that if I send a program change-message only and omit the bank select-message I get the GM 1 sound set. To active the the drum sets in the GM 1 sound set it is necessary to send the midi data to channel 10 on the CT-S1 In order to active the built-in 61 tone-bank on the CT-S1, you must send a bank select message (MSB: 2, LSB: 0 or 64 - according to the manual) first, and then the program change-message. The perspective of this is that you can record audio from the CT-S1 and have it sound some of its more advanced tones such as the CZ- and VZ-tones, just by sending the appropriate midi cc messages. I hope this video will inspire others to get the most from their CT-S1 Jay๐ŸŽน
  7. Hi Just for the fun of it I made a recording of the intro from Europe's - The Final Countdown using only one built-in tone on the CT-S1 Now, the recording is only 20 sec. long (8 bars or measures). I don't want to get sued by a record company, who thinks I infringe their rights. But I would like to share this recording here on this forum, via soundcloud. What do you think is possible? Would a short quote from some artists work (like I would say this is) be okay to upload and publish? People with expert knowledge on this subject should come forward now Thank you! Jay๐ŸŽน
  8. I had a wonderful evening exploring the possibilities with my new CT-S1. As a warm-up, I toured the different tones available from the dedicated buttons on the keyboard, playing in different genres. As I felt I was ready to leave the songs and melodies I know by heart behind, I took the light and portable instrument and sat in my recliner (of course) with it placed on my lap, and just let the music flow out. After a while, I connected my iPad and recorded the midi data. Later I did the actual recording of the audio. The tone I am using is the default piano tone. So, this pieces is not about bravado or ambition to impress. It's just organic, quietly flowing in its own pace. If you like it I would love to hear from you Jay ๐ŸŽน

As described in this comment: Here is a stage setting for the PX-5S that will send one program change message to the CT-S1 - provided they connected via midi - for it to sound the 1st tone in the Synth category of its tone bank. That tone is called Synth-Brass, hence the name of the stage setting. Moreover, you will have control over: filter cut-off [Slider 1] filter resonance [Slider 2] attack time [Slider 3] chorus [Slider 4] delay [Slider 5] reverb [Slider 6] of the CT-S1 and use pitch bender use modulation wheel all triggered by the PX-5S. For the stage setting to send the program change message you may have to press [Bank] and the stage setting-number you saved it under. For instance, if you saved it under Bank 0-0, you would press [Bank] and [0] [0]. By design, sound generation on the PX-5S is turned off in this stage setting. Likewise, the target (1 & 2) of Knobs 1-4 is not assigned. Here is an example of the stage setting in use. All music is played on the PX-5S, even though it is the CT-S1 you hear. I used some of the sliders on the PX-5S to slightly alter the sound from the CT-S1: Jay๐ŸŽน

  11. Hi @rsaintjohn and others Look here: PX-5S: Sending Program Changes to External Gear | PRIVIA PRO BLOG (wordpress.com) I used the approach described on this blog, and now my PX-5S, via an altered stage setting, controls tone selection and triggers notes on the CT-S1. In addition to this, I can manipulation factors such as: filter cut-off filter resonance, attack time, chorus, delay reverb (and possible several other midi control change options that the CT-S1 supports) of the sound output from the from the CT-S1. plus effectively use pitch bender use modulation wheel on the PX-5S to affect the tone generation on the CT-S1. 12. The problem was this. I had forgotten about a small, but paramount detail: in iOS, in settings, for the DAW app I am using, the microphone was disabled. The moment I enabled it again I could record audio from my CT-S1. Problem solved. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thanks for taking your time two answer my post. I appreciate it! ๐Ÿ‘ Jay ๐ŸŽน
  13. After having dealt with pseudo-technical issues* earlier today๐Ÿคช I guess I needed to tune (pun intended) into something light and happy. So, I paired my iPhone with the CT-S1 and found some karaoke-videos on youtube: Old songs dating back to the 80s and 90s from the National Danish Song Contest, in Danish called:"Melodi Grand Prix" (related to the ECS - Eurovision Song Contest or just Eurovision). With the backing track from several of these beloved songs flowing out through the capable speaker system of the CT-S1, I had the joy of playing the melody on the keyboard, shifting between different tones for verse and chorus. I was holding the keyboard in my left hand, while my right hand travelled up and down the keys and simultaneously, I walked a round in my living room imagining an audience there being all exited and cheerful. If my anecdote here resonates with you, I strongly suggest you give it a go with your favorite songs as accompaniment. You might just end up having a good time. In my opinion this keyboard wasn't meant for serious tweaking or advanced Midi-manipulation of some sorts. It just a keyboard, folks. And a simple one. But, damn, it is fun to play - in it's own right. ๐Ÿคญ Jay ๐ŸŽน *I call them pseudo-technical issues because they weren't really issues. just an oversight, really)
  14. Hi Brad I am blending in in the conversation: my CT-S1 is connected via Bluetooth to my iPad. Audio out from the CT-S1 is routed out (via cable) into the audio in input on my PX-S5. Audio output from the PX-5S goes out from the two Line outs into my audio interface that is sending sound out through the connected speakers. the iPad is also connected to the audio interface via the lightning port. Now, I have managed to record midi from the CT-S1 to the DAW running on my iPad. When I add an audio track, in order to record the CT-S1 playing the midi notes with the piano sound, nothing is recorded to the audio track. what am I doing wrong? Also, when activate the cycle button in the transport panel in the DAW midi play back is delayed in the 1st. Repitition of the midi segment in question. Why? jay๐ŸŽน
  15. ...and the restaurant they go to probably is this: Linthe โ€“ Kullmanโ€™s Diner (kullmans.de) Jay ๐ŸŽน
  16. The CT-S1 ad for the european (or german) market looks like it has been shot in and around Berlin (just guessing). The car (a Volkswagen, of course) in the video has a German license plate - if my eyes don't deceive me. Take a look: Jay ๐ŸŽน
  17. So, hopefully the CT-S1 I ordered (after canceling the first one I ordered ๐Ÿ™„) will come today, along with the blue tooth adaptor and a free (!!!) pedal. In addition, I have ordered a Stereo Audio Cable: 3,5mm male to 2x6,53mm male for the purpose of connecting the CT-S1 to my audio interface. And yes, I ordered the red one - the BEAST Jay ๐ŸŽน
  18. Thank you for the suggestion. In the next days I will go through some of these downloads one by one and compare them with the arp/texture in the demo.
  19. OK. Solely looking at the user-sequence I am talking about in my original post in this thread - if I go to this sequence (that is a part of a user-performance) and press Edit and successively press Mixer I get the following information from the display: Part 01 Tone P:084 Whistler DSP since I wanted to play the melody using this tone. To by best knowledge that is a solo-synth tone. So, could that be the culprit? None of the other parts in the mixer have solo-synth tones applied to them. I am going to replace the tone for part 01 with another that isn't a solo-synth tone to see if it makes a difference. And let you know of the results. Whether I find a solution to this problem or not, I wanna thank everyone for their contributions in the effort to find the root cause of the sequencer playing out-of-time intermittently. ๐Ÿ˜€ Jay ๐ŸŽน
  20. (I guess I am supposed to write him on my own behalf ?) Calling @Mike Martin Hello Mike Would you happen to know the answer to this question: "Could somebody please tell me where to find the stage setting for the PX-5S used in this demo? (cf. the description on soundcloud) " https://soundcloud.com/casiomusicgear/xw-pumped-bass-demo The text following this demo on soundcloud goes like: "Demo of a Pumping bass sound using the XW-G1 Solo Synth. Drums also from the XW-G1, additional sounds from the PX-5S [my highlight]. Same bass sound can be recreated using the XW-P1. Sound available for download at www.casiomusicforums.com" In the demo there's an arpeggio running (probably on PX-5S) under the bass sound. So the question refers to that particular Px-5S stage setting that is being used. I hope it is downloadable on this forum Merci. Jay๐ŸŽน
  21. He He - Great Video, Joe I like when the tone accidentally(?) changes and he seems surprised with that gesture he makes with his hand - and then he just takes it from there with some jazzy chords. Saweet. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‰
  22. No. The text following this demo on soundcloud goes like: "Demo of a Pumping bass sound using the XW-G1 Solo Synth. Drums also from the XW-G1, additional sounds from the PX-5S [my highlight]. 23. Hi Could somebody please tell me where to find the stage setting for the PX-5S used in this demo? (cf. the description on soundcloud) Thanks! Jay๐ŸŽน
  24. Oh, no! it.still.does.that ๐Ÿคง [I really wanted to end this thread on a happy note (no pun intended) and have big fat SOLVED added to the title. However, the problem still persists]
  25. You may be right about that, AlenK. I am just happy that the sequencer now plays in time, every time (again). ๐Ÿ˜„ This problem was not present when I bought the instrument some months ago. It was preowned when I got it but seemed to work fine - just as the ad promised. The problem of the sequencer going out of sync came later on. Some days it would play it's notes perfectly, some days it just messed up in an unpredictable manner. Jay ๐ŸŽน
