  1. But don't forget that most arrangers have a synthpop or techno styles. Probably several versions also. As for the Privia PX-5s, I figured if he was going "Whole Hog" he might as well get the best. The PX- 5s really has a lot more to offer than the Xw or G1 at a great price point also.

 also he did say that he had sorted out someone to give him lessons. Most teachers prefer 88 keys to 61 for students ,but they generally want a real piano too

     P. S. It would be awful hard to leave my P1  behind if I had to move from Outlandishstan. I would have to buy another :D

  2. Hello Scottie Dog and welcome to the forum!  I read your post a few days ago and I can't get it out of my mind. I don't think you'll be happy with either of these boards and here's my 2 cents worth.

    1. I have the P1 and love it but I think you would definitely like the Privia Px -5S. I would sell my P1 for one of these if I could stand being without a board for a few days. The P1 is alot of board for someone just starting out.

    2. The Privia PX-5S is a full 88 key keybed. Would be ideal for lessons and everyone seems to love the pianos. Its also like a Xw-P1 on steroids. Watch this beast of a board on Youtube.

    3. I can't believe no one suggested one of the WK 7500 or 7600 series of arranger keyboards. This would also be ideal for you. You could learn some songs and have a backing style playing behind you. You would learn timing and see your skills improve alot playing along with a style. These also have speakers so you really wouldn't need amps or monitors unless you really want to play loud.

    4. If I had started out on the P1 I would have quit music years ago. This is a beast of a board for someone just learning. Heck even the people selling you the board couldn't give a demo! The manual for this board is atrocious.Thankfully I started out on various arrangers and worked my way up to the harder boards. This is what i think you should do.

So in conclusion Scottie Dog...... If your one of the guys who has to have the biggest and best get the Privia Px-5S.

....... if you want to really learn how to play music, start out with an arranger like the WK 7600.

.........you have to learn to walk before you can fly. :)

  3. Here's how you do it on the XW-P1

    1.  Insert a sd card in the keyboard. From menu have it format the card. This should create a file within the card called MUSICDAT.

    2. Remove card from keyboard.

    3. On your laptop create a new folder and name it something you can remember easily. Download all your new sounds to this folder.

    4. Insert the sd card into your laptop or p.c. Allow the computer to find the sd card. When it does, drag all your downloaded sounds from the folder you created the the MUSICDAT folder on the sd. Be sure to use the safely remove hardware feature on you p.c. before you remove the sd card.

5.Insert the card back in the board. Press menu and scroll thru till you find "load from card". Find an empty user slot to load the sound to. On the XW it looks like this U-0-0.I think i goes thru to U-9-9. I don't have my board in front of me right now so I may be a little off on this step. Be sure you save to the User banks or you will be overwriting you presets from factory.

Just be aware. If for example you download a drawbar organ sound, you have to place it in the user categories in the organ categories. Hex sounds have to be saved to the Hexlayer category user slots. Solo Synth to Solo Synth user categorys etc..etc...

  4. Hey moogy. I believe this question has been answered on the px 5s part of the forum. You have posted your question on the Xw part of the forum. I'm not sure if these two boards load the same way.

Look on down the page and I will tell you how to do it on the XW.  I bet these boards will be real similar on how to load sounds.

  5. I tried doing the volume changes while in performance mode , but It had no effect. The only way I was able to adjust the Individual Zone volumes was to go in and manually change each. If you saved it would keep them locked at whatever you changed them to. I'm assuming the performance is locked when its created. Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

I was able to do what you wanted by creating a hexlayer based the same performance. While not 100 % identical to the 0-2 Advanced Hex.. its close. While time consuming, I layered the same sounds(as close as my ears could help me) from this performance and turned it into a hex layer. It takes a little menu diving but I came up with a fairly close hex layer  .

Maybe some of the more advanced members know a way to do this in real time . Let me know. Maybe a good question for the next live clinic.

  6. If you could give me the performance name or patch number your trying to adjust , I could try to use mixer with it to understand whats happening.

Its easier to problem solve if I have a starting point.

  7. File Name: Piano +Vox 2

    File Submitter: amaverick

    File Submitted: 19 May 2014

    File Category: XW-P1

This is my version of Hex layer of the user-06 in the hex layers called piano+vox . I like it so much I replaced the original patch with this one. It works well for November Rain and ballad type stuff.

Sliders 1 and 2 are pianos.

Sliders 3 and 4 are vocal based or vox.

Sliders 5 and 6 are Strings.

Mess around with the velocity on the keys with this one. Slow easy playing triggers layers 1,2, 3 and 5 together. Harder ,more dramatic playing brings in layers 4 and 6.

Turning 1 and 2 all the way down sounds good too. Play around with it. :)

If you like this patch give me some reviews. :D

Check out these packs on you-tube. They are pretty good. Maybe somebody can figure out how to get them, being he doesn't respond to replies.

I can't figure out how to get the video to work. Maybe someone can fix this for me

  9. I just posted a hex layer harmonica sound. It's a clean sounding harmonica. I almost put a little distortion effect on it to make it a little gritty sounding, but I liked the straight sound a bit better. Very hard to do a convincing Harmonica.

If I met the challenge be sure to give me some review stars. :D
