  1. As for me, I'd be happy seeing nothing new. The xws and the the px5s are still brand new. They need to sell before Casio brings out something else and if nothing else comes out, it means Casio will still be marketing and releasing new stuff for the px-5s like Mike Martin's stage settings and videos. If they release something that bested the 5x, I would have buyer's remorse and all their drive would be put into marketing that. I have only brushed the surface of what the 5x is capable of and I like reading these forums for all the bits I pick up and all the settings, tones and everything else the community post too. A new product would divert some of that. Now if they released a xw combo synth, I'd be okay with that because I haven't got one yet and though I'm settled on the G1 but would like the P1 features too Have to say too, I am very interested in the headphones because Casio tends to release products which are quality and pack a lot for extremely competitive prices. I'm looking for a pair of headphones. I even asked on this forum for suggestions so I'll deffo be looking into these. I like the look of the decks but I just have no idea how to use them, wouldn't mind learning though.
  2. well, this is my first good board coming from mostly just an acoustic piano so I don't know what a lot of the jargon on the board means. That's not Casio's fault as you are sort of expected to know synthesizer terminology and what the options aim to achieve. I've been learning some of it but I still wouldn't know how to replicate a patch from scratch on any board, let alone the px-5s. Most of the cool sounds I create were made by accident but I guess that is the way you learn. I would love a big book explaining everything though. I could see a third party making one, maybe.
  3. I'd love a noob-friendly book explaining in detail everything the px-5s does and how to do it with examples.
  4. Can't vote NO because it says you have to answer both questions.
  5. anyone know the direct link to the water sound OP was talking about?
  6. I posted this as a new thread but Choppin thinks it might be related to this post, I'll repost it here: I have a saved stage setting where I've applied some distortion to a piano tone, and a number of other things (not sure what exactly because I'm just experimenting but lots of reverb). Then today, I write a phrase and re-save the stage setting but immediately after doing so, the first thing I notice is, the distortion effect has been replaced by the equalizer effect. Not sure what else was changed because I'm 100% sure what other parameters I had adjusted exactly but changing the effect back to distortion, it sounds like how it originally was so it could be just this effect parameter which was changed. This happened yesterday too but I shrugged it off and imagined I had changed the effect by accident as I had been adjusting the effect parameter on another zone. Anyone else encounter this phenomenon?
  7. Anyone know if the save all function saves any phrases too? I should probably do the update soon but want to get back all my stuff.
  8. Anyone else have an issue where saving a stage setting changes some parameters. I've noticed this twice now. I have a stage setting where I've applied some distortion to a piano tone, and a number of other things (not sure what exactly because I'm just experimenting but lots of reverb). It has been saved. Then today, I write a phrase, re-save the setting and the first thing I notice is, the distortion effect has been replaced by the equalizer effect. Not sure what else was changed because I'm 100% sure what other parameters I had adjusted exactly but changing the effect back to distortion, it sounds like how it originally was so it could be just this effect parameter which was changed. 9. Bingo. I found it under sound generator in System Settings. I wonder why I turned it down. Must have been messing around. I only realised recently that whatever you alter in the system settings gets saved. My board just sounded slightly different to me one day and I couldn't figure out until it finally dawned on me I might need to reset a bunch of stuff by pressing the +/- buttons together. I wonder what else I need to change back. Should probably do a complete board reset one of these days and update to the latest firmware. Would you by chance know whether phrases get saved when I do the save all function or do I need to save those separately.
  10. Thanks, tried that but it didn't work unfortunately. I wonder if it could be a simple master setting somewhere on the board that I have activated that turns play-back off or something? I can record to the usb key, I can load tones, phrases and stage settings from the usb key, I can hear the recorded music on my computer when I plug the usb key into it but I cannot hear any music when I play them on them on the board. The time does tick though.
  11. IIRC, it was something to do with lack of proper midi support on android devices. I too would prefer something on android as I intend to never enter the apple eco-system but do plan on finally getting an android phone in the new year. However I think I remember someone saying the software which the casio app is based off of isn't available on android devices due to low midi support. Oh well, maybe I will pick up an iphone if I could get an old one at some throw-away price just to stick at the end of the board. Wondering if an ipod touch work the too? Pretty sure they'd be cheaper still for an older model. They're mentioned in that blog post.
  12. Anyone have an issue where they record themselves playing but when they press play to hear it back, they can't hear anything? I can see the time ticking by but I can't hear any sound until I unplug the usb key and stick it into my computer. Wasn't originally like this.
  13. I just loaded up the editor for the first time today and have my PC connected to the board for the first time via USB. Was just wondering if it was possible to hear the keyboard through my computer's speakers via the usb cable? I don't hear anything off the bat but I see a usb out switch at the bottom of the editor in the midi section but bare in mind I have no experience with midi.
  14. Could anyone point out some metronome phrases in the downloads. I had look around but I can't find any. I also searched for them which brought me to this post. I think should be listed here if there are any: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/category/7-px-5s-phrases/
  15. I can't speak for other boards as this is my first good one but there are a couple of sax sounds in the String/brass section called Breathy ASax and Breathy TSax. They are two of my favourites tones on the board sounding really natural, realistic and nuanced. Chuck demos them here but TBH, I don't think the way he plays them here does them justice. They sound better on my end: http://youtu.be/zjzUbYHNIB4?t=5m32s Currently I like to use them to play solos over some distorted organ phrases. And don't forget there are tons of ways to adjust all the tones. Chuck demos all the tones in this series (but not sure if does the stage settings somewhere): http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4lH80nobNBLM1intqchzwqd2bQHLiNY9
  16. I had it in 'momentary', not 'toggle' but maybe I had it depressed a couple of times before cycling to a new effect and the effects sort of carry over and layer up. so if I want the effect to come and off as quickly as possible, then the on/off rates should be set to 0,0? That would mean immediate?
  17. Does 'on' mean pedal pressed down and 'off' mean pedal released? Is it how slowly the effect goes on and off? Any good primers on how to set the pedal? I watched Mike Martin's recent video and there is a little bit about it in there but I'm cycling through the different options and some don't seem to do anything like I think there was a portamento one called portaOnOf and I couldn't get it to do anything. Seems like the pedals can be quite powerful if I could figure out how to set them up. One thing I noticed as I cycled through the different options was that some of the effects seemed to remain though they were no longer selected. By the end of my experimenting, my Sound Setting sounded totally different than how it started out even though no pedal was depressed and no pedal effect was currently selected. Like the attack/release/cut-off had been changed. What I had been trying to figure out was how change the attack momentarily by depressing pedal 2. I wanted to use it with the deckards lead sound setting (3:3) in zone 2 so that when playing the top part I could change the attack level to play the two rapid notes in the Blade Runner theme before releasing the pedal so zone 2's sounds goes back to having a long attack. Couldn't figure it out so if anyone has any pointers, I'd appreciate it. Cheers.
  18. Cheers again, I found this post with the settins in an alt order: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/218-px-5s-stage-settings-alternate-order/ Is there one with them in the original order? think I found em: http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/1-px-5s-v110-stage-settings/
  19. Thanks for the prompt reply. Guess I better figure out how to load my first SS so. Can I download just that one SS from somewhere? Edit: Just watched the bit about uploading in Martin's latest 5s video and he was unable to upload the SS he wanted to because it was a made in a different version than his board is currently in. Is that going to cause a problem with me? I'm still on v1.1 and never upgrading my board when I got it. Now I have one stage setting in particular I don't want to lose so if by upgrading the board I won't be able to keep those settings, then I don't want to upgrade it until I figure out how I made the sound (I have no idea what I did to make it but I really like it, ha)
  20. I was following along to Martin's recent youtube video on the 5s and I initialised stage setting 3:3 (the bladerunner one) by pressing the system button and using the initialise stage setting command. I though this would return the setting to it's original setting as I had messed around with it but instead it just set it to the default grand piano 0:0 setting. Is there a way to get the brunner stage setting back without downloading it from somewhere or resetting the entire board? Cheers guys.
  21. Nice one! Cool futur-ey sound. I think I'll be playing with this one a lot.
