I have a CTX 5000 I bought used. The keys are noisy which may be why the original owner ditched it. I enjoy it very much and play with headphones so the noise does not bother me. I do understand how the noise bothers some owners but honestly have you ever heard how noisy a real acoustic piano is? The sound is deadened by the reverberation of the strings but noisy actions abound on real pianos too.

Exactly, and not only acoustic pianos..if the keys on every keyboard are functioning properly as thy should nobody should worry. My initial worries were only till I realised that has nothingto do with the keys functionality. 🙂

  2. And because many people are reading this forum ( and many of them are potential buyers) , reading stuff here to make a decision I d like to be honest with them, not scare them, and also I d like to be honest with Casio as well. I am 100 % happy with my new CT-X 5000  and not only I have not regret it but I fall in love day by day. This, low intensity insignificant, noise on 1 key is not a criterion.  The overall feeling of the keyboard is very satisfying (my opinion) .

@RCCASGAR said that Korg EK-50 have not issues with noisy keys. Maybe that was the case for him, maybe. But generally that's not accurate at all and as  @Brad Saucier stated above anyone can find this out by doing the proper search on google. All brands have issues with some keys . As for my old Yamaha PSR-2500 ( which was a replacement for my Casiotone 610 back in 1990 ) it started to have many noisy keys in the first year. Unfortunately,  I don't have the proper equipment this moment to upload a video comparison of the old Casiotone 610 keyboard (which has zero noisy keys after thousands of hrs ) and the Yamaha psr-2500 ( which has almost all the keys making sounds.

Anyway ct-x 5000 is an amazing instrument  for its price range and provides so many functions along with great sounds

@Craterusso to answer your main question if ithe keyboard is brand new, by all means send it back for repair and it is probably best to have a phone talk with the repairing service to have information about what exactly they are doing to the keyboard to be sure that they actually do something.

Better yet, if you still have the possibility, send the unit back for a refund and by a replacement unit afterwoods.

    Regards,

Hello again Vinciane, and really thanks for your opinion. I finally contacted the reseller and he told me that it's a matter of grease. He told me that he could arrange everything etc but reassured me that its nothing important to make me worry about. I decided to keep my Casio, cause I already loved it and to be honest this noise is reeeaally nothing important for me and the keyboard generally has a very good feeling when I play. So..we will see

That's what I gathered from some of the other posts. I only started to notice it now that I'm home more and trying to play quietly through the speakers.

I rewatched a video I took when I first got it and that noise is there. For some reason it didn't bother me until recently. It must be like fridge buzz. Once you notice it, you can't unhear it.

But again, I love my CTX. I still can't believe the sounds I can get out of this for the price point. A little key clacking is a minor tradeoff 😆

Indeed, that s exactly as you said, once you notice you can't unhear it. The only think that makes me worry about that sound in my case is if its not just a matter of proper lubrication, or a minor bug, but something thay may affect the keys response and functionality in the long term..

Does this CTK Casiotone 610 Keyboard have weighted keys?  Going to maybe buy one off Craigslist.  Thanks

Hello there, I have this keyboard since 1985 and it s still playing as a new on 2021 after thousands of hrs playing on it. My father used to play with it also on gigs those days 🙂 Believe it or not its a very strong, durable product. Its keys feel more firmly placed than my brand new Ct-x 5000..haha..but as someone else noted, no it is not equiped with weighted keys, not even touch responsive. But if your aim to start learning its ok. I did my fisrt 4 years of piano on this one and I ve been ok with it.. But if you can save some money go get a new model man..

Mine had that issue right in the shop. In fact, they had 3 units and all had same issue. So they gave me $50 discount :D Today or tomorrow I'll open it and will try to fix by myself. As I've determined, there are two styles of key noise - one when you press it, and one when you release it.

Hello again Alex. I finally just received my brand new ct-x 5000 today and I m very happy, BUT I also have a clunky-noisy E key..Do you think I should send it back or try and open it? I watched the video above and it looks easy, but its on a ctk 7600 and the guy is not showing how he initially removed the grey cover. Athough I should feel comfortable opening it ,as I am a mechanical engineer 🤪, I feel very wary as always something may go wrong and break even something small , not important. Have you ever found anywhere a detailed video bout how to open the case and grease the

I had the same problem, with my CT-X800. I sent it back for repair, they sent it back promptly but after one week the problem was back, so there’s nothing much to be done really 😒

Hello vbdx66, as I stated somewhere in this post I just received my brand new ct-x 5000 and it has one clunky E, would send it back for just this?

Did the repair team reported you back what they did? Was it just a grease? Thanks

Does anyone have a video tutorial on how to tighten up the keys, or lessen the clacky key noise on a CTX3000? It's only on a few of the keys and it's not a big enough deal for me to want to mail it back for repair. I just thought that if it's easy enough to do at home I will.

Otherwise, I absolutely love this keyboard! So happy with it.

Hello Crhis, What did you finally choose to do? Is your proble solved? Cause today  I just received my, otherwise almost perfect,  brand new CT-X 5000 and it has a clunky-noisy E on upper right part. It makes a kind of crackling sound when pressed suddenly, with speed but even without force. It sounds like some grease is missing and the plastic parts are hitting on each other. I think i just need to open it up and grease it instead of returning the whole unit back to the reseller, as its very possible that the replacement unit will have the same problem. I 've watched a very detailed video on YouTube but it was on a CTK-7XXX model and I don't feel comfortable trying to open my brand new baby without a detailed video first. Suggestions?

  9. @Chandler Holloway You said "It's just an added convenience for the DAW crowd, but it's cool to see these things officially supported by Casio"  and I say "Yes! Indeed, cannot agree more" . Casio has started to gain more respect in my country lately, and I think peoples' interest will grow more soon. This forum helps a lot on this. For me ti was a reason to finally go ahead and make the order of my ct-x 5000. Other wise I would have been very hesitant about buying it , having read that it has a difficult interface. But after spending some hrs here I see that It's not that difficult to find answers if you search and ask. Some users like you Brad, Martin and others provide very detailed answers , passing on your hard-earned knowledge to us. And that 's very encouraging for new comers (and customers ) like me..Thanks!!

Yeah, I'm trying to figure this out now. Thank you a lot for your help, Brad.

    Have a good day.

Hello @Artlor, I was happy to read somewhere over the net that you finally managed to make this work with FL (EX Fruity loops) and you just had to know that while "Ableton Live" software counts from number 1 for both Program change and Bank , the FL software starts counting for banks from number 0. And that was the reason you could not have the keyboard play with the desired tone on the ct-x keyboard. That's very good news 'cause I was a bit puzzled pretty much before, having read all this.

So, if you could take a min and post here some more details about the way you made the configurations on FL for messages to be send correctly I guess we would be grateful !! Basically any piece of info is very welcome..Thanks!

It can't erase a user recording unless you specifically try to load a new recording into that slot, and Data Manager warns you and forces a manual confirmation before that happens.

If you try to use a sysex librarian program other than the officially supported Data Manager and you overwrite pre-existing data unintentionally, that's part of the risk you sign on for when using unsupported, third party software. There's really no need to try to transfer data that way when Data Manager or the flash drive slot are acceptable methods.

Regarding your problem about being unable to use the CT-X as a MIDI device when Data Manager is active, that's a limitation that would exist regardless of which transfer software you use, because in the end, all software based transfers through the USB host port on the CT-X must be carried out via MIDI sysex and that means that Windows must open communications with it as a MIDI device over USB. Once that connection is established, it can't interface with any other software that might utilize the CT-X as a USB-MIDI device until that connection is closed. This would be the case with any keyboard or synthesizer that performs data transfer via MIDI sysex (like my MicroKorg, or my Roland JU-06, for example), it is not a Casio problem or a "glitch."

Your issue with Data Manager changing the auto-power off setting is indeed strange, but plenty of people have been using Data Manager for CT-X data transfer since the CT-X boards launched 3 years ago, and this is the only irregularity with system settings that's ever been reported on these forums. It seems unlikely that a transfer error that would result in catastrophic loss of user data or settings would have been entirely undiscovered through the QA testing phase and the three years the software has been in active circulation, but if you are that concerned about this possibility, you are always welcome to use the flash drive method for total peace of mind.

Really thanks @Chandler Hollowayfor this clarifying post ..the way you answered on that made clear to me many things that would be difficult to understand later on my own...Also thanks to @Just Alex for asking bringing all this to the fore , even if he initially reported his observations as "a glitch"

Yes I have done some doo-woop, have to check whenever I've saved them. I think I'll post 3-4 of "new" styles this weekend.

Meanwhile, here is a list of styles (not conversions), I'm currently working on and approx. amount done:

    Shakatak - "Night Birds"  - 30%

    Paul Mauriat - "El Bimbo" - 30%

Joe Dassin - "Les Champs Elysees" - 40%

Status Quo - "In the army now" - 99%

    Shakira - "Whenever, wherever" - 40%

    Conversions:

"TechnoPolis" From Yamaha PSR-E2000. Almost complete, but having an issue with intro/edning playing major/minor

Also decided to convert some ethnic styles, almost finished these:

    Mashakalny, Hewa 2016 - Arabic/Iran

Niem Khuc, Tram Nam - Vietnamese

p.s : In the army now -> good  choice

Wow!! That's a lot of work I guess..I still don't have my ctx5000 home and I guess it won't be soon at home due to covid-19 impacts on transportations in my country. I can't wait to start exploring how all this work is actually done on the keyboard..I hope you 'll be here for some basic advices..

It took me a little while to figure out how this works, but essentially one of the "Items" you can configure when creating a new User Tone on the CT-X5000 is a DSP setup.  But you can't create them from scratch, you have to "copy" one that is already built into the system, and you can edit its internal parameters from there (maybe that's a feature available on Workstations?).   You can copy a DSP either from one of the built-in Tones (not all of them have a DSP, though), or from a set of 100 DSP "standard" setups (not associated with any Tone) that are outlined in the Appendix document.  But as you are trying to select a DSP to use, it's not always easy to tell what you're getting.  So just to have all the information in one place as a handy reference, I created this document that shows all of the possible DSPs you can copy into a new User Tone, and which DSP sub-Modules (up to 4) that each contains, and in what order.  For more information, see my additional notes on the last page of the document.  Comments, questions, and suggestions welcome!

Guys, if you want more styles, I need more feedback. No feedback means there is no need for styles, so, I will not post them :)

Hello man, my first time here. Still waiting for my ct-x5000 and I have already started to explore its features and capabilities so to be "ready" when it arrives 🙂

I 'd like to congratulate you for your efforts. Really thanks for investing time to help the community. It's very important for all of us. I started to follow this thread 'cause I want to be part of it and why not try to share my own creations here too , later.

Also , I d like to let you know that in case you are comfortable creating styles when you have samples from the requested style, I am willing to pay as well .

    And..Happy new year !!!! 😉
