  1. @troyehallFirst, welcome to forum. You'll find a ton of information here. Also on the very active Facebook groups. We've also done a ton of videos and live webinars on the PX-5S. I'll be doing another one soon so please subscribe to the Casio Youtube channel.

It really could have been so much easier if things were named what everyone else calls them.

Every manufacturer has different names for different things.

    Casio tone =

Yamaha Voice, Korg Program, Roland Patch

    Casio Stage Setting =

Kurzweil Setup, Korg Combi, Yamaha Performance

That being said the Stage Setting concept is unique in more than a few ways.

hex layers are really just 6-oscillator synth patches

In its simplest form yes. But each layer has its own key range, velocity range and more. It is much deeper than just six layered oscillators.

The closest comparison is a Kurzweil "Program" which can be up to in some use cases can be up to 32-layers. Multiple Kurzweil "Programs" can be further combined into a "Setup"

The Stage Setting concept is further unique because ALL of the tones used along with other things like Arpeggio patterns and more are all contained within that Stage Setting. This makes things very easy for sharing complex configurations. Tones that you use often like pianos, electric pianos - can quickly be added to a Stage Setting and if you make a slight variation on it for a particular song is stored in that Stage Setting without having to have duplicates of the original tone.

Stage Settings are completely independent of those in the Tone buttons, which can require a different way of thinking about things.

It is absolutely different, but powerful and unique. Casio broke some new ground here and sometimes that takes getting used to. The Tones are "ingredients" which you can use within your Stage Settings.  Interestingly though since the the release of the PX-5S several manufactures have released products that are all ways in a "Performance" mode. So the concept is solid.

  2. @shep,

Sorry for the trouble you're having, unfortunately your video doesn't show how it froze...just the fact that it did.

I wish you were here in the USA as I'd be in a position to help you. I can tell you that aside from your posts, I've never seen or hear about anything like this and we have many professionals using PX-S3000's out on gigs currently (gigs have returned for many of them thankfully).

I think you should speak to your dealer and or the local Casio distributor about the issue. Hopefully they can get you sorted.

Random thought...is this the SAME power adapter?  This would seem to be power related to cause this kind of issue.

  3. @Patrick3

I understand what your saying but it is simply not possible to add the WU-BT10 to the PX-S1000 and PX-S3000. The CME product when available will be the best solution for addition wireless MIDI to USB MIDI devices like the PX-1000/3000.

Although the PX-S3000 has a USB port, attaching a WU-BT10 will not work. This not a software limitation but a hardware limitation. To accommodate Casio's WU-BT10 and Bluetooth MIDI there are significant hardware changes to PX-S1100 and PX-S3100 over previous models.

The CME product should work with class-compliant USB MIDI products like your PX-S3000.  I'm ordering one too.  :)

  4. As performed in the video below:

    Download link below.

    There are several components.

The Performance file, a Phrase, the Sole Synth lead and two user tones.  The Performance must be edited to reference each of the components, tones and phrase depending on where you load them in.

    Zone 1:  Solo Synth.

Zone 2: Preset String tone P11)

Zone 3: User Tone 70's String (variation of factory tone)

Zone 4: User Tone SynString2 (variation of factory tone)

    Phrase: Long Note

  5. Update:
I hadn't listened to this song in a long time. This original demo posted above was created hours before a NAMM show without the best reference to the original song.

    New v2.

Improved lead tone (maybe...more accurate but I don't know that I like it better).

    Faster tempo

    Improved Step Sequence.

    Enjoy.

  6. I found it.  My XW-P1 still has all my demo files.

I'll post the link to a .Zip below which will contain the extra components.

There are four components each need to be loaded in individually then you have to edit the Performance to make sure that they are referencing the proper items. This is for the "Daft Punk: End of Line" demo on the XW-P1.

    Solo Synth tone:

OctoSynth1 - This is only a slight variation on a factory preset tone. This is used on Zone 1 of the Performance. Make sure you edit the performance to point to this tone, wherever you might have loaded it into your XW-P1.  This is NOT an accurate tone to the original song but certainly was a unique version based on what the XW can do. I may revisit this.

    Phrase:

This performance contains a Phrase which is the bass-line for the piece. You can easily hold down the lowest A, triggering the bass while you're also able to reach the bender and mod wheel with the same hand while playing the lead with your other hand.  When you load in the Phrase: "Daft Bass" you'll have to make sure that the Performance references the location that you loaded into.  To do this Select the Performance, press Edit, select Sequencers, scroll down select Phrase and make sure that "Daft Bass" is selected.  This phrase triggers two (preset) bass tones simultaneously on Zones 3-4.

    Step Sequence:

Basic 4 on the floor drum pattern with a repeated pad that pans Left / Right using one of the controller tracks.

Select the Performance, press Edit, select Sequencers, scroll down select "Dafted" wherever it may be located on your XW.

Performance: Make sure that Zone 1 and the two sequencer parts (Step and Phrase) each access their user components.

Press the lowest A to begin playing the bass line, start the Step Sequencer in time.  Play the lead over the top.  Enjoy.
