  1. I use a V-Machine with VB3. This is a vst instrument hardware player. The V-Machine is a failed product that can be boughyt for a snip. It can run VB3 with plenty of resorce to spare. i have been gigging with this every weekend for 6 mnths, Never ever let me down. VB3 is by far the best organ vst instrument. I have a Korg CX3 and have stopped gigging with it, because the VB3 is better. Burn has been mentioned above, This is also from the same guy as VB3, he also had input in the Crumar Mojo. http://www.genuinesoundware.com/
  2. Just an update. I have now successfully used my stage settings to record midi to/from a sequencer and then record the audio. I found a simple way to do it was just to make sure the setting was only sending on one midi channel. (ta Choppin) And record midi. Then if the stage setting used more than one zone, I copied the data to multiple tracks within the sequencer and matched the midi channels. I didn’t need to play with LSB/MSB etc As I manually set the Px to the stage setting I wanted. It’s a fairly easy work around. The important part is, I now know the stage settings can send on 4 midi channels simultaneously, this can get a bit too much for many sequencers to handle when recording. Norm
  3. Exterminate extrminate. A ringmodulator was also used to create the voice of the Dalek's. I too built one years ago. it had two inputs. One a carrier and the other the signal or modulator, if i remember correctly. Great sound, but pretty uncontrollerble. Norm
  4. Thanks for all of your input. And especially to Choppin for his in depth description of how the stage setups can be accessed from an external device. I did look for this type of info before posting, but it’s very thin on the ground. But now I have this info and the midi implimentation, im pretty sure I can get to use my stage settings to record and replay from a sequencer. But what a palaver. My creative juices will have to wait. First I will have to master this send/receive protocol. Thanks all again. Norm goergtn my stage setups are all different. I set up what I need for a particular song or songs. Sometimes one instrument, sometimes a two way split. Sometimes a split with two internal sounds and one external. I use a V-Machine with VB3 for my organ sounds. I also have setups that have Wurlitizer EP on most of the keyboard and 3 Synths layered on the top two octaves. Very handy gig tool, but not so intuitive when recording to/from midi.
  5. I love my Px-5s, it’s an incredible stage instrument, but it’s bloody useless to use to record midi into a sequencer and play back stage setups. I have decades of midi and sequencing experience. But getting my head around a simple record live track of a 4 zone split keyboard and then have it replay, appears to be impossible. Is there a way to play stage setups from an external source? I have even reconfigured a copy of one of my stage setups and set all zones to same midi channel etc. Kept the channel as 1 or 2 as i believed setups only work on 1st 4 channels. i know this is a stage instrument but didnt imagine this would be problem. Has anyone succesfully managed a work around for this. Norm
  6. I've owned dozens of keyboards since the early 70's. They have all had good and bad things about them. You have to balance what you need from a k/b and what is available and what you can afford and what is practical to use. I've owned Hammonds and Moogs an plenty of Korgs and Rolands a few Nords a Kurzweil a SCi and a few Casio's too, an probably some others that I cant recal just now. I've had the PX5s for six months and have been gigging with it every weekend since the day after I got it. Yes, it doesnt have an expression pedal socket. I wish it did. But it has so many plus points that make it the best gigging keyboard ever, So Far. If you dont at least go and try one of these, you are missing out big time Norm
  7. Yeah Hugh it is. And those ones are even worse.
  8. Hi Dennis Just plug it in and wait, it will be picked up by the O/S. No special drivers needed, (windows ok, not sure about Mac these days) Then look in Cubase for the Usb midi input. just use it as normal. Norm
  9. Hi Behrooz Its very easy to add new sounds. If you look at the top of this page, Theres a Download Tab. Have a look in there. Norm
  10. Cheers Scott. Gigs are going well. I have used a few of the Wurlitzer EP settings, the Wurli Cruzer stage setting is a cracker, thanks Jim. Great sound and feel and cuts through well with a 6 piece blues band. I've also tried Mike's Vox Continental patch. Using it for House of the Rising Sun etc Very useful for me, as I gig in Newcastle UK, Home town of "The Animals".
  11. I have had a little more time today to try using my V-Machine & VB3 with my PX-5s. I couldn’t find anywhere that explained how to use as a master keyboard. I played around and worked out that, you need to disable GenOut and Activate Midi or USB Out. It's great. I created a Stage Setting with the 6 sliders as Drawbars. I reversed the polarity so they work just like drawbars. I used the knobs for Volume, Rev, Drive, Perc amount. Next I created a split Stage Setting, With PX5 Wurly on the bottom half of the K/b. And External V-Machine Module on the upper half of the Keyboard. Im hopeful that, I should be able to gig with just the PX5 and V-Machine. I will continue gigging with the PX5s and my Korg CX3 for a few more gigs until Im confident with these new Stage Settings. I have been gigging since th early 70's and have had many, many Keyboards. This PX-5s is the best gigging board I've ever had. Its very programable. It sounds great, feels great and is very light. Norm
  12. Hi Willf So far, I have only had time to briefly try the V Machine/VB3 with th PX-5s. It works well.. I will be creating a few empty stage settigs, using the sliders for drawbars and the knobs for volume, drive etc. The Damper/Pedal 1 works fine for leslie fast/slow. K/b feels fine for organ even though its weigted. as Hugh says they are avaiiable in th UK. i think Digital Village and Gear4music have them. Im in the Uk, if you are near to me you can try mine if that helps. Norm
  13. I've only had my 5 a few days and so far have done one gig useing it as a lower K/b for A Piano, Wurly & Rhodes. To keep it simple for this 1st gig. I loaded A Piano into 0-5. Rhodes 0-6. Wurly 0-7. Drawbar 0-8. Vox Conti 0-9. The idea being to keep the patches I might need as close to the front in one bank. I also used a Korg CX3 as my uppr K/b. I intend trying the 5 with my V-Machine & VB3. I did try my PX3 with V machine VB3 but didnt find it useable. As the 5 has programable sliders and knobs, Im more hopeful with this combo. I loaded Mikes Vox Continental patch. Thats gonna be very useful for me for Doors and Animals tunes etc. So for me its going to be used mainly as a live do everything board. Norm
  14. I have been folowin this from the begining and I have luckily been able to finally get a PX-5s today. Im in th UK. I have a gig tomorrow night. Lets see what this baby can do. I will just use the Mono grand and the Wurly for this gig. My PX-3s will stay at home. Just an updat to this. The gig went well. The PX-5s performd well and sounded great. I thought it had a very clear but powerful sound. I will be tweeking sounds for my next weekend gigs. Norm Edit - Sorry should have posted this in a more appropriatte thread, As it has nothing to do with the Firmware Update - I did also update mine, It was easy and worked perfect 1st time.
