  1. BradMZ - Would you mind sharing what stage settings you used in those demos? Maybe by commenting on Sound Cloud. Thanks - Barry Wood
  2. I was able to find a gently used Burn on EBay for $375 (only $25 more than the Mini Vent). Should have it in a few days. I tweaked the 9 Draw Organ to suit my taste and I'm looking forward to hearing it with the Burn. Should be a very usable B3/Leslie combo.
  3. Scott - I haven't yet but I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy the Burn.
  4. I'm going to buy one or the other to play my PX through. I'll use it some for recording and some for live performance. Not concerned about the price difference. I'm liking the Burn because it has programmable presets and control via midi. I don't know if I personally can tell much difference in the sound. Which one do you like and why? Thanks in advance - Barry
  5. Joe - Must be the engineer in me I'm using 30 for the Slow Rate and 100 for the Fast Rate (approx. 650 RPM). A real Hammond player would probably shoot me. The Rotary effect "beats" against the organ tone so it's probably a matter of personal taste. I used a sin wave tone to generate the data so I could see it easier on the scope. I've attached a table of what I found. I'm sure the numbers are a little off because I believe they should fit some kind of curve. I'm going to buy the GSI Burn or the Ventilator II soon so it's probably moot for me. I'll start a new thread to see which one the group likes with the PX and why. Barry Rotary Table.pdf
  6. Point taken Joe. I agree that a Leslie sim box is a better choice. For kicks I put a digital scope on the output of the PX. I found the SlowRate setting of 30 is close to 40 RPM. The max setting of 127 is about 240 RPM. On the FastRate a setting of 69 is close to 400 RPM. The max setting of 127 is about 950 RPM. I tried using a spectrum analyzer but couldn't get it to scan correctly. Probably operator error.
  7. The original 122 and 147 leslies rotated at around 400 RPMs for the fast speed and around 40 RPMs for the slow or chorale speed. Can anyone relate those to the FastRate and SlowRate parameters of the rotary effect in the DSP? For example what SlowRate setting would approximate 40 RPMs? Likewise for the FastRate setting.
  8. On the System Setting tab in the Stage Setting Filter box there is a button that says Compressor. It is blue when it is on and black when it is off.
  9. Choppin Everything you said makes sense. Thanks for the explanation. The question remains - Is there a way to modify the stage settings to prevent the sound surge when changing from one setting to another with notes sustained (either by holding keys down or using the damper control)? In my case I just want to change from an electric piano sound to a grand piano sound. Thanks in advance, Barry
  10. I tried Midi-Ox and everything worked as you said. Thanks Choppin. Barry
  11. Thanks so much Hugh and Choppin. I will definitely try out the Midi-Ox solution today! Barry
  12. Hugh, I believe I know how to use a pedal to start a phrase. I'm interested in knowing how to use a pedal to start an arpeggio. The only pedal setting I see related to arpeggios is "Arp Hold On/Off". I believe that setting determines if the arpeggio will continue to play after you release the key that started it. Thanks in advance - Barry
  13. I tried creating a midi file with 1 beat. The phrase converter converts it to one measure of 4/4 with the beat on the first note. The shortest phrase I could make (entered manually on the keyboard) is one measure of 2/4. With the tempo set on 255 it still isn't fast enough. I haven't tried Midi-OX yet. Is there a way to trigger an arpeggio other than by pressing a key on the keyboard?
  14. Yes. You read it correctly. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look into Midi-OX. I was hoping there might be a solution within the PX-5S itself.
  15. Is there a way to set up pedal 2 to trigger a bass drum? I'm looking to keep the bass drum beat of a song using pedal 2. The only thing I have come up with is to record a non-looping phrase and have the pedal start the phrase. The problem is that I can't retrigger it fast enough for up-tempo songs even using a one measure 2/2 phrase (first note bass drum, second note rest) with the tempo set to max. If the pedal could send a midi note-on when pressed and a note-off when released that would be great. I don't see any way to do that. I can work around it by making a 4 note (1 measure of 4/4) looping phrase that sounds the bass drum on every 1/4 note. I would have to adjust the tempo on every song. Any suggestions?
  16. I used C2 because that is the first note of the intro to the song. That way the bongos start at the same time as I start playing the piano part.
  17. OK - problem solved. I think I understand the difference between the common phrase sequencer and the phrases related to a zone. I put a one measure "click track" in the common phrase sequencer to establish the tempo. I enabled Zone 1 and put a looped phrase for bongos in it. I set the key range in Zone 1 to the first note of the piano part in the intro. I'm using pedal 2 set to "ArpHold On/Off" to control the phrase in Zone 1. Zone 2 is set to Layer Rock Piano I believe. So to play the song I press pedal 2 to "arm" the Zone 1 phrase. Then I press the Phrase button, then Start to start the click track. When I start playing the piano part, the bongos start simultaneously. When I want to stop the bongos I press pedal 2 again. Slider 1 controls the volume of the drums (including the click track) and Slider 2 controls the volume of the piano. One thing that I had to do was copy the drum standard set 1 into a user location and turn off the note that I was using to trigger the bongos. Otherwise I was hearing a bass drum every time I played that note. Overall pretty cool! I need to work on the bongo phrase to make it sound more like the original. I'm just a rookie at programming drums. I have attached the stage setting, click phrase and bongo phrase in case anyone is interested. I'm not sure how to transfer the modified drum kit (or if I need to). I have the click phrase in U100 and the bongo phrase in U101 but you can put them wherever you want and modify the stage setting accordingly. Thanks again for the help. FeelinAlright.zip
  18. That may be my problem - I don't really know the difference. I may be hearing the phrase sequencer and not the Zone 1 phrase being played by the arpeggiator. If I turn on Zone 1 and set the note range to one note (low A or something) that may fix the problem. I'll try it when I get home from work. If that doesn't fix it I'll upload my stage setting and let you look at it. Thanks for your help.
  19. Yes. In the data editor Stage Setting tab on Zone 1 > Mixer - Enable is off and Zone 1 > Controller > Arpeggio - Enable is on and Phrase Seq is selected. The phrase is loaded in location 100. I'm using pedal 2 to start and stop the phrase and that works also. Question - In the data editor on the Stage Setting tab, what's the difference between the phrase shown in each zone on the Zone tab and the phrase shown on the Common tab?
  20. I'm trying to create a looped phrase for bongos at the beginning of Joe Cocker's version of Feelin Alright. I recorded a midi part in Reaper and converted it to a phrase. I pointed to the phrase in zone 1and assigned slider 1 for volume. I used zone 2 for the piano and assigned slider 2 for volume. The phrase works but slider 1 won't control the phrase volume. Slider 2 controls the piano volume fine.
