Display Name Posted May 21, 2018 Share Posted May 21, 2018 GM = General MIDI. These are, in essence, a set of standard sounds across all brands of keyboards. They each may sound slightly different between brands, but overall it's a pretty good system. Without this, MIDI files wouldn't work right; you'd have to assign each track to an instrument manually. OK so to record to a PC? You need an audio interface and a DAW or audio recording program (Audacity, for example).
