2 Casio-Devices per USB in a DAW (MuTools) - How to distinguish?

I've a XW-P1 and a PX5-S and love these Instruments, gave me these a taste of my youth-dream in a payable manner ;-)

It's fun to play with the different presets and the nice vintage sounds on the px-5, and its even fun to practice some finger exercises on the px5....

But now the problem:

If I connect these keyboards per usb to my computer, the system (WIN8) recognize every device as casio-usb-device.

There I can't finde any possibility to distinguish and know which of these both casio-usb-devicese is which device.

How can I assing to different tracks onehand the px5 and otherhand the xw?

And is it possible to play then multitimbral with some grouped tracks from the DAW to for example the XW (drumloop, synth-phrase and appreggio from the DAW)?

I'm a total newbee in MIDI and its a book with 7 seals for me, I've read some Infos around the web, but its not so easy to understand how it works....

I'm a dilletantic keyboarder an have till now mostly played church-organ, easy preludes and choarals, therfore I think in categories of registers and manuals....and sheet-music. But thats not that, what I want to do with this nice CASIO-Instruments...

Thanks for hints and little kicks on the back of head which can increase the thinking assets ;-)

Greetings from ChristmasLand in Germany (also known as the OreMountains)

Hello,

I'm not at the keyboard right now so this is from memory, but on the PX-5S, press [sys Settings] and look for MIDI > Device ID

Change this to a value of 1-16 to have this keyboard with a specific ID.  I don't know what the commands on the XW are, but it should be something similar.  Change this to a different ID.  See if that makes any difference.  You should be able to send commands from the DAW to a specific device.

Mhm, first thanks for the hint.

I'd test this before, but it seems not have any affect in Windows nor in the DAW.

Ever only 2 CASIO USB-MIDI Devices in the devicemanager and in the DAW; lno possibility to distinguish which is connectet with which real device, the XW or the PX5.

Nor in MIDI-Input or in MIDI-Output is it possible to select.

My third and forth key is recognized and assignable as I want (ist a Alesis QX49 which reveals himself as one it is In the devicemanager and in the DAW it is named with the string QX49 ant the garagekey mini also as garagekey mini - look at he attached screenshots)

I think, this is a big bug from CASIO, they have not tought to the end and did the usb-port and the MIDI-Possibilities out of her eyes.

I'm rather angry about this, because my ideas must be buried - I hope that someone from CASIO is reading this and they make a new firmware for both of the devices, which only one improvement should be that the usb-port is recognized with his own instrument-device-name (The PX-5s as PX5, the XW-P1 as XP-P and the XW-G1 as XW-G so that the instruments can used in every home studio with every sequenzersoftware or DAW!!!)

Otherhands I would be very disapointet from CASIO, because that is an essential must have of every usb-device, which can used in the same manner so that the operating system can distinguish and then the operator before the screen.

This is indeed not a case of the 95% of the failure in the front of the computer, this is the really rare case of a not in all finished product of a manufacturer...

Merry Chrismas to all and greetings from chrismasland in germany

Thanks Mike for your answer and the confirmation, that there is a problem or mistake with the firmware of that devices...

I hope, that there is time to correct this after the NAMM or sometime in the next future.

In this context I want to say thanks for the tutorials on the forum and links to youtube and the work, which you invest in that.

Sometimes without help from the web these instruments would be only dead keyboards with more ore less good an usable presets, but thanks these tutorials ist's possible to experiment and play around some "sounddesign" and sounds...

If there where someone, who can programm MIDI for Android it would be a total nice think, to have some connection to the PX5 (and XW), first it would help a lot, to use the Android-Device to select the banks, tones, user- and presetbanks.

I neverever will buy or use an device from the appleunivers, in my eyes android is the smaller evil, because it is possible to use it without an google-account, and it can be complete controlle by myself. I'm rather paranoid in privacy...(sometimes...)

Now I know that there in the moment is no possibility to change the problem with the usb, I will arrange myself with it with the big hope, that this woul be only temporary.

Greetings

Ruben
