  1. The following is a quote from the PX-560 forum, but I am curious if this also applies to the MZ. “The PX-560 is limited to a single DSP insert effect for upper and lower tones. If you choose more than one tone designed to use DSP, only one of them will have the effect. Some of the piano tones also use DSP insert effects. Since piano is upper 1, it takes the only available DSP resource.“ Ref: MZ-X Users Guide - (Basics), pg. EN-18 1) On the MZ, Is there one or two DSP’s? (I am assuming one for Tones and one for Mic input)?? 2) According to MZ user’s guide pg 18, in split mode, “if both tones have an effect, one will be disabled.” Which one? 3) What If two tones with effect are layered? Which one is disabled? Thanks.
  2. can i only do one auto harmonize track in midi rec? i seem to have found out thats true...its like dsp....but i want to make sure.... .you'd think it would be possible with all that polyphony? and i can hear the second track be auto harmonized but then it dissappears after midi recording? perhaps i could do a usb audio record and it would stay put! so i could sort of have two dsp and two auto harmonized tracks total.... i can also hear a second dsp when midi recording but not saving.... on the other hand...!!!! found out i can do multiple arpegiated tracks HURRAY- A BIG IMPROVEMENT OVER OTHER CASIOS.....well the old ones i own anyways....unless they could and i didn't know how ...ha! hope i'm not bothering people too much on this forum..... i'll be taking a break soon to install an expression pedal
  3. Are there only 2 DSP effects in the MZ-X500 to share among all parts? Seems like there should be at least 4 (for the 4 parts that can be split and layered while playing). If there are only 2 how are the DSP effects allocated when using 4 parts for playing - 1 shared for upper parts and 1 for lower? Also for sequencing 2 DSP effects could be a real limitation. I've got a MZ-X500 on order - this is the first arranger keyboard I've ever purchased (also own a Yamaha MoXF - which is an effects powerhouse). The demo's I heard and the nice built in speaker system sold me on the MZ-X500. Thanks!

I find so now and then something that strikes me once in a while on the XW with an "oh" The DSP been on my exploration list for a long while because well there seems like there are two DSP but you only get to use one where the other is for dual usage like ""FlangReflection". "The way I came to understand where it does it like that." The XW controls the DSP FX differently in each of its mode when in tone mode but it also mixes the tones differently in each of its modes for an example. I've given an edited Clav tone a DistPan and saved that compare it to the same clav DistPan in performance mode (with EQ off) in tone mode the sound presence would be kinda mild soft tone where in Performance a non edited tone get full presence in the sound its like monaural vs stereo. Edited tones used in Performance mode also have a different sound presence, Actually in performance an edited tone sounds less full then one that isn't in performance mode. an edited tone will sound exactly the way as it is in tone mode while being used in performance mode. So in performance mode the XW gives two different sounds from exactly the same tone that seem to be processed differently by the matrix mixer. It gives a different perspective to how patches can be build with edited tones though. So I went further in the rabbit hole and dug deeper to see how much a difference there is while mixing edited and non edited tones together in performance mode. For instance when an edited tone DSP parameter is set to on and used in performance mode all the parameters will be maintained except the DSP (there is only one DSP to use) so all sounds will use that DSP setting. But there those edited tone get the same full presence you also get with non edited tones in performance mode. Well that is odd so there is less presence with edited tones in performance if you don't set their DSP on. But if you do their presence sound full as the non edited ones. That got interesting cause now I can use a DSP effect to concatenate a full sound presence while still having the other tone parameters like ADSR time , Vib settings fixed as I wanted them. I can change those by setting the knobs to that particular #CC whahahaha. <-(*thats me having fun *). Well that journey got interesting I dug into the XW and it showed me what its sonic capable off. The practice I got doing this serves me well in digging deeper in my other synths such as the PX5S the more I learn to know the faster I can build something.
  5. DSP in the XW.

    The many sound sculpting and function in the XW synth can be edited and even after these many moons have passed since I've gotten my G1 synth its simple parts even get me by surprise. I've always used the standard form of the DSP , Compression , Flanger , Delay and such and in the beginning tried the hard way by changing them with General CC messages. Which didn't give the full or fixed spectrum for usage but still workable. First time got frowns how they made sounds well sound like for instance delay 1 to 5 subtle changes holding single notes would let the effect apparent by releasing the note. As well with chords. The impression was that it would go on while the notes where played on hold. Frankly a great deal of the DSP feels like an after though when applied to tones the tones rise and then the DSP kicks in. Some of the DSP are an exception like Pan , Distortion etc. Still considering the way one could do sound designing it could works well into an advantage in sound sculpting and that what I did. But to apply those advantage one needs to program the desired effect by editing an DSP store it and later us multi-key to switch between several DSP. Many way's to accomplish using DSP's. One thing that surprise me while building a performance patch was when using DSP compression on two tones but I did not realize to have selected this also for channel 10 which Ive used for hi-hats. While playing with both patches founding it odd like hey the hi-hats are getting quieter if I play something. And get louder again when I stop playing notes. Now I had a new thing to use when I'm going to build a patch how powerful is that even for Step Sequencing, With a solo-synth patch its a no-brainer but to expand on that is even greater. I wont go into the process of doing that and spare you guys on that part it simple to set it up but getting the desired DSP chain is another thing but purely in a sound design sense. Its pretty remarkable there are Pro's and Con's to the DSP like to much and and it sounds like digitized metal ringing or the flangers a bit sounding like a ping pong fixed at one point in a plane field. But depending on usage can give a rewarding sense of accomplishment when creating a specific sound set. Managing wise one file for all those changed parameters for tones , dsp , arpeggio would be a first though addition giving room to countless sound or performances making.

Although the Performance patches are nice and a good source as a template, In the beginning however it was a difficult ride because my inexperience both in synthesis , step sequencing and sound designing and most importantly as a starting musician again . Learned many things on the forum followed the video tutorial and kept experimenting with the XW-G1 and every step I got familiar with its inner working. Using the controls , arpeggio, Step and Phrase sequence in addition with performance patch. The G1 has its own specific sound it kinda sounds bare most synths have PCM tones that sound like being done in the studio with the G1 you have to do it yourself editing the tone to you're piece. The true magic to sounds are always DSP , Equalizing effects rather in DAWS or Synths they always add a little more to tones. The single DSP the G1 has, I thought it wasn't enough you can't add different effects to each zone or channel for the step sequence however you can assign which channel may use DSP effect. And with that most of you're sound designing starts off at least for me it is when I'm not using the solo synth that is because that one takes all. Solo synth is a real "solo" part with the DSP. Did allot combinations where I used the Solo synth sole DSP use in a performance patch to hear how far you can go music wise. It has its cons and pro's, Cons are if you're not choosing how tones can be manipulated it will sound far out to what you want, Sometimes you gotta keep in mind how the tone will swell or die in layers of filters. Pro's are tones can be manipulated in the same sequence of you're piece for example a pan-flanger a nice effect seem like a fine grain detune in the low and higher frequency. I did lots of patching with DSP effects one of my favorite is this one. https://soundcloud.com/clay-louis-petty/snarlylead-demo-3-with-total With that I found my way to open up the G1 with its single DSP in performance mode, It also made me ponder allot about how difficult it was to make it work on my amateur level. Though also why Casio did not add more DSP to this synth or allow way's to trigger controls into tones as a patch gradually those question have been answers on the forum . I did allot with a single dsp more on the G1 in whole with what its capable. The only thing for me left is being a better keyboardist to make it sound musically right and good. But I have to say to me the G1 is a bare synth with no glamorous high quality stuff on it but the beauty of that is it made me not lazy to let it sound glamorous and high quality like its a question of good sound patch programming. Now I have also the PX5S which sounds luscious to my ear good use of controls four DSP hello sound heaven. With this last one I got a list with stuff like when I connect G1 and PX5S together through midi or redirect the line-out of the G1 into the PX5 and such etc. Last but not least some good sound programming on the XW-G1 by CasioMusicGear. https://soundcloud.com/casiomusicgear/xw-house-jam (edited in about pedals) Pedals are still new to me as an extension to use changing nature of sound its also nice switching and trigger controllers on the G1 a big difference which I should have added in the post earlier. In case of the G1 the part to trigger looper recording changes you're whole perspective chorus lines and interlude, Go figure (tap on the hat) . Good job Casio.
  7. People claim that Casio CTK-1000 was a singleton without variants. But a predecessor might be Casio CT-770. Its functions look like CT-670 (a velocity sensitive fullsize variant of MT-750), but as a novelty it had additional illuminated buttons for DSP effects (reverb etc.). Has anybody heard if it has similar dynamic synth timbres like CTK-1000? (By space reasons I definitely do not want to buy one to try it out.) -Which CPU has the CT-770? Is it a "NEC D939GD" like in CTK-1000 (i.e. IXA synthesis), or is it based on earlier hardware (e.g. D937GD of MT-750 or D938GD of MT-540) with external effect DSP (e.g. the "OKI M6583-04" from VA-10)?

Because I have a 2nd keyboard directly above the PX5, and a 3rd one right above that in a customized unchangeable stand which was built for a flatter keyboard, I can't easily reach the sliders & knobs. What I want to do is send a CC to the PX5 from an external controller/keyboard's knob, which will duplicate moving slider one, to add a bit of grit to an EP the way that slider does on many programs. Since the editor only specifies the target "DSP param 1" I need to know how if possible to send the PX5 what it will read as "DSP param 1". Of course, the same principle would apply to many other knobs & sliders. I can set one of the external sliders to output almost any CC# to the PX, although for some reason my XP80 sliders or pedals can't be set to 32-63 (but its keybed feels really really good). I looked thoroughly but didn't find any answers here., so hopefully someone's figured this out but didn't happen to post it.

  11. Hello, I was investigating setting tremolo control to a slider. What happens is opposite of what I expect. There should be DSP parameters 1-16 assignable through a knob or lever (according to the manual). The number available depends on the effect. Sounds straight forward but there seems to be a problem. Walk with me through these steps and please tell me if my approach is wrong. First I'm going to lookup the parameters for Tremolo in the Manual: 1-LFO Rate 2-LFO Depth 3-LFO Waveform 4-etc 5-etc Ok there are 5 parameters I can control. I should have the ability to assign any one of these 5 parameters to a slider. I'm really only interested in the rate, so I only need to assign DSP parameter 1. First lets check zone 1 to see what DSP effect is currently set and check the parameters for slider 1. Bank >0 0 EDIT > Tone > Effect > DSP > Type[Through] The DSP setting is Through right now. Let's check the parameters to see what's available: Edit > Stage Settings > Common > Slider1 Edit > Target[DSP Parameter 1 ... all the way to 16] Ok, kinda weird, all of the parameters are available but Through has no parameters. Maybe it's no big deal... Onward. Exit out to the beginning Now to do the work: 1. Select Stage setting 0-0 (Concert Grand) 2. EDIT > Tone > Effect > DSP Edit > Type[Tremolo] > Depth[127] (make sure the effect is pronounced) 3. Exit back to edit Stage Setting 4. Stage Settings > Common > Slider1 Edit > Target[ DSP Parameter 6 ... through 16] Now that's really weird. Parameters 1-5 are not available to assign! It seems the target makes available the OPPOSITE of the parameters necessary to control the effect. The DSP Effect Through has 16 available parameters when it shouldn't have any, Tremolo DSP parameters start at 6 which is beyond it's range of available controls. Unless I'm doing something completely wrong, this is isn't working how I'd expect. I Just tried it with Rotary. Same thing. Rotary should have 9 parameters available under Target but it has the opposite - parameters 10-16; 1-9 are excluded. Can someone else try this test?
  12. I understand most of the DSPs, but I can't quite get my head around these two. Enhancer What does it do? What does "enhance the signal's profile" mean? Reflection Is it a type of reverb? Does it work in conjunction with the system reverb? What are reflection types 1 to 8? When would you use either of them?
  13. Hi, I've been trying to get the rotary knobs to control the dsp tremolo effect speed and depth for a pcm tone. I have read the manual many times. Especially parts where these settings are mentioned. No luck. There is a long list of parameters to select for the knobs but none of them seem to control dsp effects. I've tried most of the likely settings. Has anyone done this? You would think it's possible and I just can't figure out how to do it Thanks, Pete
  14. Hello everybody, ( i´m a newbie in here) Could anybody help me how to export a DSP (factory made) from my old WK-3300 (aka WK-3700) to my new WK-7500 DSP´s user zone ? I´ve take notice that 7500 has no DSP (triple effects) like CmpEnDly (Compressor+Enhanced+Delay) and I would like transfer one from my old WK. Thank you.
