I need help configuring the settings on new Privia PX-860

I just received by new Privia PX-860 last week.

Does someone out there know how to configure the piano for the rich, deep, resonant grand piano sound that the reviewers all raved about?

I have tried a number of settings, including "string resonance", "Hall simulator", Chorus, etc. but have not yet achieved the quality of sound that the piano is  supposed to have.

I play mostly classical but I am not a very good pianist and usually use earphones.

Any suggestions?

Hi and welcome to the Casio Forums. There are a few different piano types on the 860  - "Classic" and "Mellow" should provide the warmer tones. As far as reverb and chorus: reverb should be adjusted to taste, chorus should not be used for traditional piano tones.

You may also want to upgrade your headphones or use find the :sweet spot" in the room so the internal speakers sound best.

I will close by saying each person has their own idea of the "perfect" piano sound, so it will really come down to you experimenting and tweaking until you find the sound you like best.

To follow up on Scott's post-what are you using for headphones? You really need something pro or at least reasonably close to pro to hear the sound quality inherent in any kyboard, especially something like this. I use AKGs-240s and K-301s. These are older models but with large surrounds and large internal ear diaphragms-make quite a difference compared to even fairly good consumer type phones. So realistic that I often take them off thinking I'm playing through my large speaker sound system.

Thanks for the advice.  I am using older Sony earphones and am currently researching  a better quality pair.

In the meantime, I am still searching for the deep, resonant sound needed for the Beethoven pieces I am working on.  It seems to be a bit of a hit or miss proposition, given the many variables the piano offers.

Does anyone know what settings were used in the original Casio PX 860 demo videos?

Thank you for your suggestions.

I followed up and got a new set of headphones (ATH-M50x).  With these and a few adjustments on the settings I have found a fairly good sound.

I have another problem with a wonky G (the first below middle C) which is louder than all the other keys.  This is true regardless of which piano voice I have selected.

Also the black keys don't sound as loud as the white ones.

I have posted a new thread on these two issues,.
