  1. Ok, So I have to edit the sound as I like with a tool like audacity , and then using a tool like LoopAuditioneer or endlesswaw to mark the loop points. Then use the sample manager to manage the split point or defining the hex layer using it. SO I can record a sample to a pad, and I have seen some demos on it, but I don't understand if I can get it and use on the fly as a tone in Upper1? The manual it's quite confusing about it (the Italian translation it's more confusing...): By the way I noticed that on the block diagram, the audio in goes directly to audio out and amplification, so I suppose no noise gate on it, but I could have a noise gate active on mic input ( or turn off on the parameters, I suppose)...
  2. I have a question about the sampling capabilities of the MZ-X 500. Can I record a sample via the mic or line in, eventually trim it and then assign to the keyboard to play the samply transposing in frequency? Could do the same thing with a .wav file? This wav file could be really short, like 1 period short, like the old skool wavetavle syntesizer ( like the fz-1 draw wave or the Ensoniq SQ-80)? Could use these samples to make the sounds for the bass mono synth?
  3. 🙂 Carrefour does it too. In Italy you can buy only one store-brand moutarde, in a really sad plastic bottle, and it's also very bland. Thre are we https://www.carrefour.it/Ricerca?isNoF=false&search=senape You pass the border and find tens of store-brand and branded moutarde. https://www.carrefour.fr/r/epicerie-salee/huiles-vinaigres-condiments-et-sauces/moutardes I don't know why they are doing this... -- Mike the moutarde smuggler
  4. Like the CGP 700 that is not available in Europe, I suppose that the the power that be deemed that EU and UK aren't a good market for that kind of arrangers. I don't think there are different regulations like for automobiles.
  5. It's missing in the Italian site: https://www.casio-europe.com/it/prodotti/strumenti-musicali/ And in UK site: https://music.casio.co.uk And neither there is found: https://www.casio-music.com/euro/ There are some on sale in some shops online, but they seems to me that are remaining stock.. Maybe the arranger is marketed only for US/Canada??
  6. Why stop whining? I have just made a tone for the PX-5. 😉

  9. Are you sure that the switching PSU is auto voltage 120-240? Anyway a 120-240 transformer coul be useful for other issues like to kut radio frequency interference from mainline. If you have an ham shack you sometimes buy a 240-240 separator transformer for try to ged rid of TVI and it sometimes works.
  10. I have also to add that sometime even good drives could fail in weird ways sometimes, especially because a "cold" solder joint will cause problems after some time the device is used. On rare cases there are problem with the flash drive chipset and USB interface used and the operating system. Very old thumb drives are prone to this, so they are working perfectly if plugged on a Macbook and generare read errors when plugged in a Desktop running Linux.
  11. About MZ-X 500 it could be a good option but one hast o wait to find an used one at a reasonable price, and from what I see there aren't many used, maybe because who owns one is satisfied with it 😉 There are some shops that are selling it new but the price is the same as the PX-560 -- The problem with vintage synths is that they are old electronic systems not meant to be used after 30 years or so and in some case you'll find some nasty surprise, like leaking batteries or broken connectors. I have actually a vintage synthesizer that I got not working and for a barter, and was a pain to clean the keyboard, restore the factory settings, and to do this I had to find a floppy disk and an USB floppy disk driver (in the attached photo you can see the USB floppy driver and a glimpse of the old Synt. Yes keys are yellow, and yes if you really want a painful experience you can use a floppy disk with the PX-5S.
  12. As you know I own a PX-5S, ad after more than a year I find it has some plus and some minus. The minus are the lack of a sampling option and the fact that the phrase and song sequencinng are a bit difficult and conterintuitive. I need a more drum-machine approach. I was looking at some classified for an FZ-1 for that '80s sound, but all I have found were either sold at not working with missink keys or were over 400 € in price. Then I found a shop selling one XW-G1 that was on exposition with still the 2 year Casio Italy warranty. at 350 € with postage price included. I suppose that tones and phrases can't be exchanged between px-5S and XW-G1. Or I could simply take a Volca sample that is smaller and costs less...
  13. I think also adding a BT audio input is a cheap thing to do, because you need only to add the signal on the analogue output getting them from a BT audio IC receiver. https://www.elecfreaks.com/estore/portable-wireless-bluetooth-audio-receiver-board.html As you can see they are cheap, for 15$ you get a nice PCB with also two usb connector, an sdcard slot ad five buttons. BT midi is more complex because either the CPU has to read two midi in sources, one from USB and the other from BT-midi or one has to add an external microcontrollet that muxes the two midi streams. Now that I am thinking about is if Casio design an adapter to convert BT-MIDI and DIN-MIDI for their existin keyboards it will sell some, and with the price point of Kenton gear there is some room for improvement.
  14. Was actually that. The problem was that the midi segment I made was extended automatilaly to end at the very beginning of the second beat, making it actually made of two beat, anyway I tried a quick test and worked. See below 😉 http://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/file/1254-sleng-teng-riddim/

Just a test for everyone who loves reggaed and Casiotone MT-40. I have to tweak a bit the tones to simulate with a complex and powerful hex layer synth engine a dual square wave oscillator and a lowpass filter 😉 but the factory square lead 2 tone in the synth section should suffice.

  17. I have a problem on creating a phrase on the px-5S. If I start from a one measure midi file I recorded in a DAW (Linux Rosegarden) then cutting what I played to be a bit less to one measure. When I use the tool to convert I get a phrase with an empty extra measure, and I can't shorten it. Same problem I have if I like to cut a part of a phrase from the PX-5S. And from what I have tried I can't use the arpeggio editor on phrases. Seems to me that is a bit difficult to adjust a phrase or am I missing something obvious?
  18. https://shop.scavino.it/casio-cdps350-bk-pianoforte-digitale-88-tasti-pesati-nero-con-ritmi.1.44.168.gp.103937.uw Is available in shop nearby me, I suppose because for EU countries the commercial strategies are different in respect to US/Canada. By the way CDP-S100 is sold there at €439,00 and CDP-S350 is sold at €589,00 the price difference is a bit more than 100$
  19. I think is becaus the old school synth sounds are again hip. There is a comeback of modular synths, and of coure Moog is back... Having a phase distortion synth engine will be interesting for a lot of people. Hex layer synth is cool and one could do a lot of interesting sounds, but for instance lacs hard sync and ring modulation between oscillators.
  20. Here we go... Bought it in a brick-and-mortar bookstore and computer shop (actually near the Python for dummies book) https://www.wiley.com/en-ca/Piano+and+Keyboard+All+in+One+For+Dummies-p-9781118837566 From the same author a basic series to learn to play melody and chords sheet music: https://www.halleonard.com/product/viewproduct.action?itemid=696060&lid=2&seriesfeature=FSTDVD I have them both and I fount them useful.
  21. I was a bit confused by the similarly named programs thinking they were the same. Ok, I have found it and tried the functionality. To be honest I find difficult to use on a small phone screen, and seems to me that isn't possible to havie the piano roll to loop on a section, or maybe I haven't read the instructions.
  22. There is Chordana play for piano that has a similar functiond. I't designed to work on some Casio digital pianos, but the falling note functionality seems to work even on not supported ones like the px-5s. Ort there's the Linux fork that is a free version http://linthesia.sourceforge.net/ Tried it on a smartphone, but you definitively need a bigger screen to have them useful. In my personal opinon it's way better to learn to read music, and there are some applications that are like Synthesia but are using notes http://pianobooster.sourceforge.net/ It runs also on Windows and OSX.
  23. I awake this old thread because I think I just gave a wrog advice ... So it doesn't work on Privia PX series or Celviano?
  24. The answer is imple: PHA-IV. Some people will prefer that type of action and the Roland sound piano. Besides, I think as suggestested to me, to wait to actually try the new Casio action, before judge it.
