  1. Using the info BradS gave me ( . . . teach a man to fish . . .), I was able to improve another song I'm working on. I wanted Ending1 to be a little louder. I brought up the song in the MidiRecorder window - Monitor - Edit - EventEdit. Measure 81 says RhythmCtrl. I had that line selected then I chose Insert at the bottom of the screen. Goto the System tab - AccompVolume. It gives me a box to type in a volume. I had to set it, exit out, play the song from measure 70 or so to see if it was ok. I settled on 51. This saved me from having to make an adjustment in a DAW. This IS an arranger keyboard, usually no computer required. Thanks again BradS. Ronieaz in Oregon
  2. That'll work. You're a genius. Thanks.
  3. Hello: *What I'm doing (for illustrative purposes I'm going to keep the settings uniform). PadBank-Phrase-025BassSet. Pad1-Setting-Part-B09. Pad2-Setting-Part-B10. Pads3,4,5,6,7,8-Parts B11,12,13,14,15,16. All pads have VelocityControl OFF. Bank is now showing !BassSet. Goto BankEdit-Write-Rename-BassSet to 30APRIL write area 001-Execute. Goto Registration-Bank01 slot1. Rename 30APRIL. Hold down Store, hit button #1. Goto Mixer-PortB-Parts 9-16. These are set to volume127. Reset all 8 volumes to 80. Press each pad 1-8. Volumes play at 80. Hold down Store, hit button#1. Turn off keyboard. Turn on keyboard. Select RegistrationBank 01, hit button #1. Press each pad 1-8. LOUD! Goto Mixer-PortB-Parts 9-16. Volumes values are again 127, not 80 where I saved them. *What I need. I need for the pad volumes to stay where I put them. I need for the pad volumes to use PortB so they do not share PortA accomp volumes. Ronieaz in Oregon MZX500 v1,60 freespace 255MB
  4. Gentlemen: FactoryReset - Recorded 8bars with GMpiano1 - copied to flash drive - drug file into MixPad. The SMF plays in MixPad through the MZX's speakers. Both MidiIN&OUT indicators on the audio interface flash during playback. MZX midi settings: KeyboardChannel 01 - AccompOut OFF - ChordJudge OFF - LocalControl OFF - MidiOut/Thru OUT - Midi InPort C - ClockOut OFF. However, the file plays through the MZX speakers on all 16 KeyboardChannels, on all Midi InPorts A,B,C, with ClockOut ON or OFF. MixPad Preferences are set for AudioPlayback via the Behringer audio interface. In Reaper I found a MidiHardwareOutput box that I changed to the Behringer audio interface, so now I get sound using Reaper. I recorded a second 8bars using Clarinet. MixPad only plays back a GMpiano, but Reaper plays back the Clarinet. I bought WavePad from NCH Software years ago. Then I bought MixPad a couple years ago. MixPad is a simple DAW, not nearly as sophisticated as the major players, but has been useful to me for certain projects. It has many features for audio manipulation. I purposely messed up a few notes in a phrase, recorded it, copied to the flash, drug it into MixPad, opened the MidiEditor. I fixed the errant notes, saved the file under the same name, loaded it back into the MZX. The edited phrase played back as corrected. For me this means if I should happen to make some mistakes (which frequently happens) I can edit the midi file in MixPad. The caveat is, it has to be a single track. If I edit parts of a multitrack file, MixPad will cram all the tracks into one when saved. Ronieaz in Oregon
  5. I tried swapping cables right away on the off chance one of the new ones was defective. Since they are both black I have one of them marked to help make sure the signal path is correct. Like I said, both IN&OUT midi lights on the face of the audio interface are lighting up when I play the recorded midi track. I switched MIDI Out/Thru to Thru, but no effect Jokeyman. Reaper Preferences - MidiInput - Behringer - Enabled + Enabled for control messages// MidiOutput - Behringer - Enabled + Send Clock to output. Reaper has definitely detected the Behringer interface. I tried with MidiClockOut set to ON & OFF. No effect. No sound. "The question is why it seems that no data is being received by the MZX MIDI IN, I think?" BradS, that's it in a nutshell from what I'm seeing here. The audio interface is showing both IN&OUT signals when I play the midi file. I should be hearing the sound through the MZX speakers. I also checked Balance - MidiVolume and External In Volume; they're set to 80. Master volume 12 noon. I will continue to explore the problem. Thanks for all y'alls help. Ronieaz in Oregon
  6. Hello guys : I bought two midi 5 pin DIN cables from the local music store. My problem? I am not getting sound from the MZX or the laptop speakers or the audio interface headphone jack or the audio interface MainOut. I think I should be hearing playback through the keyboard's speakers which are set to ON in the SystemSetting. I need some advice. Signal path: MZX DINmidiOUT to Behringer audio interface(BAU) DINmidiIN. BAU DINmidiOUT to MZX DINmidiIN. BAU USB to MacbookPro running ReaperDAW. Reaper set to INPUTmidiALLchannels. MZX set to KeyboardChannel1 - AccompOut OFF - ChordJudge OFF - LocalControl OFF - MidiOut/Thru OUT - MidiInPort A - ClockOut ON. I recorded a 2min phrase onto a midi track in Reaper using the MZX, but I couldn't hear what I was playing because Local is OFF. I see midi information on the recorded track and I could see the input bar move when I play the MZX. When I play back the midi recording, I get no sound from any source. Both Midi IN&OUT indicators on the front of the BAU flash when the song is playing, which tells me my DIN connections are proper.
  7. BradS: I'll sort all this out eventually, but for now it appears I will only need 2 standard 5pin midi cables because I just noticed my Behringer 204HD has IN/OUT midi ports on the back. Am I correct, no USB cable required for my equipment?
  8. Well, whaddaya know. Thanks for the confirmation guys. Now I will look for the appropriate cables. I've been wanting to spend some of my Christmas gift money . . .
  9. Let me say what my vision is for this process. Far as I know there are no systems that work this way. What I would like to be able to do is - connect my arranger keyboard into the laptop to send midi signals into the DAW (midi out), then return the signal to the keyboard (midi in). This would give me a real-time visual record of the midi information that I'm generating, but still allow me to keep the refined audio voices generated by the arranger keyboard. I would be able to manipulate the midi information as needed and have it return directly to the arranger, modifying the song I'm working on. Using the keyboard's current functions, I have some controls over the midi information, but it is awkward compared to a visual display of what I'm playing. The DAW would be able to show tracks all of the solo instruments, pad voices, accmp parts. I would be able to mix my music in the DAW and have it reflected in the keyboard's audio output. When I'm done, I can save the midi file as usual plus generate an audio track for each part individually or group the entire mix into a finished wav file. Am I missing something? Is this possible? 10. Ok guys, so I did - saves with the ZMF extension and when it comes time to play, it shows up in the menu. Works well. Sibelius is what I use to print out sheet music. It can read mid, xml, mxl, opt files. I tried the zmf, but no. For whatever reason the Casio recorded my Upper1&2 voices into PortC Part01 & Part02 and my Lower1 into PortB Part03, seemingly out of the PortA 16 tracks. However, when I opened the mid file, Sibelius was able to display for me the Upper1&2 organ parts at least. I can work with this because I typically only printout the melody. I can generate good songs using arranger keyboards (PA600,PSRS775,MZX), but I am a terrible musician. The sheet music helps with chords&melody. Sometimes I even have to record at a slower tempo then goto EventEdit to type in the right tempo before recording a wav file into the Tascam. Thank you BradS and RickSterling for the clarification.
  11. I need help understanding why my backup midi files on my flash drive do not contain the SystemTrack. All this time I thought I was saving midi backup files of my music. Here's what I have been doing: RecMode - MidiRecorder - NewData - Record with Accmp ON. Play chords. NoTitle - UserDataEdit - Rename - NoTitle 012 to Test1. Test1 - Record - SoloTrack1 NoData. Record Upper1 voice. Save Test1. Play Test1 - Monitor - Solo SystemTrack - I have chords. Solo Track1 - I have notes. Goto Menu - Media - Save - MIDI Recording SMF Select Test1 to be saved as TEST1.MID - Enter - SaveComplete Goto MidiRecorder - select Media Test1. Play Test1 - Monitor - Solo SystemTrack - no sound. Solo Track1 - I have notes. What happened to my backup SystemTrack?
  12. I think I understand my confusion now. I thought Parameter 1 & 2 would give me two functions to choose from. I didn’t know how to activate the knobs to give me those choices. What I see now is, the ControlKnob can perform two functions with different parameters in parallel. In essence the MZX K1 & K2 knobs are equivalent in function to the SuperKnob on Montage. Turning one knob can change two effects in tandem or opposing values. Thanks again, BradS. Ronieaz in Oregon
  13. Hello BradS: You said: "The mixer and sliders is best, but there is a way to balance two sounds with one knob. Upper 1 and 2 can be on K1 and lower 1 and 2 can be on K2 (or upper 1 and lower 1 on a single knob, however you want it) because each knob has two targets. Reverse the min max values for one target and that will create a balance knob between the two sounds." I would like to know how do I switch K1 or K2 to engage their #2Targets? If I would like K1 to have Reverb for Target#1 and Delay for Target#2, how do I choose on the Main screen? I tried to push the knobs, I tried to advance them CCw & CW to uncover a click of some sort. I tried making the #1Target NoAssign so I could use K1 for Target#2-Delay. The MAin screen is only showing me K1: No Assign. What happened to my #2Target? How do I make use of the 2 assigned targets? Please and Thank you. Ronieaz in Oregon
  14. Brad S. - Thank you for your reply. If I may, one more question: When I save mid files to my flash drive so I can open them with Sibelius to print out sheet music, the date on the file is always - Jan 24, 2013 at 10:00 AM. My MUSICDAT folder is showing Jan 14, 2020 at least. I have been unable to find a Clock setting on the Mzx. User error/ incompetence/ ignorance? Ronieaz in Oregon
  15. Brad S: Do you have any experience inside "System Track Event Edit" menus? I searched the forums for this phrase plus "Event Edit Setting", "Event View Filter", and "Filter Enable" with no hits other than this hit for "System Track Event Edit". I would like to learn about the Filter Enable On/Off button plus the 24 pages of Off/On selections. My original intent was to show only "Rhythm" found on page5 of the Event View Filter. I wanted to change the rhythm of a recorded song and I did after carefully scrolling through 17 pages of events for measure 1. If I want to isolate just one or a couple of the parameters in the Event View Filter, is there a way to set all of them to ON and then just click the ones I want to be visible to OFF? ronieaz in Oregon
  16. Thank you BradSaucier. I see the function in the 1.3 section. I have never honestly gone through all of the updates even though I did have 1.6 loaded. As one of my Korg forum contacts has noted - problems are usually operator error.
  17. Mr GenderNotTelling Saucier: This quote was in one of your replies dated 2018. "The MZX works a little differently than the AT series. On the MZX series, to permanently change the recorded upper 1 tone on the system track, open the mixer and choose port B, change the tone on part 1 to whatever you want then hold the store button while pressing MIDI play button. It will overwrite the header data with the new tone. " I own the MZX500 and a PA600 and a PSRS775. The Casio by far, frustrates me. I discovered from your statement that I could alter any of the parameters of Parts 01-04. Your "TRICK" of holding STORE while pressing MIDIplay updates my edits on the set-in-stone SystemTrack. Finding your comment was like finding a golden nugget for me. But why do we have to rely on the "discovery method" to learn about our arranger music-making tools? Well, MrSaucier I would like to know how you have come to know the largely unknown button presses that programmers have incorporated into the MZX? I think if Casio would provide more complete information on their arranger keyboard, some of us that own other makes would not be so darn frustrated with our Casio products. Ronieaz

  19. I liked it Tsquare. And when it came up for me in Wavepad, I was glad to see how much headroom you left. I'm always wondering if I leave enough. Usually for my Yamahas and Casio, if I let the keyboard make the wav file they leave gobs of headroom that I have to either amplify in Wavepad or increase in a DAW. My Korg pa600 doesn't generate wav files, only midi, so I use my portable Tascam recorder to get a wav file. It's either that or pipe the output into my audio interface. Here's one of mine off the MZX500. OneOctober.mp3
Chandler: I downloaded them onto my MZX500 and they work fine, at least the few I've tried so far. I'm seeing several of the voices revert to the default GM sounds, but I have been able to edit the rhythms ok. On the 500 I can change voice, volume, pan, reverb, chorus, and delay for each voice and assign them to different variations if I want. Lots of power in this 500. Interesting. Thanks for the work.
