  1. Very nice, indeed! I'll add a tutorial video for the CT-S1 (for those who may need it) Jay 🎹
  2. I like to dream but I also like to talk about facts so I collected some "hard" information on the CT-S1: Official Casio techspecs on CT-S1 Official Casio feature list on CT-S1 Official Casio information on AiX Sound Source (and more) In addition, I looked at a couple of review-videos on the CT-S1. Some of those reviewers, I noticed, recorded the sound output from the keyboard using cable connected to the PHONES/OUTPUT jack in their videos. But this keyboard has built-in speakers and I wanted to hear how they perform. Here's one video reviewer that does the latter: YOUTUBE: Casio CT-S1 hands-on with David Bryce (video starting at 6:53) Jay 🎹
  3. I just ordered a red one yesterday. I guess I got carried away watching videos about the CT-S1 on youtube. Namely, the sounds of VL and VZ (and CZ) got my interest. The rendition of the Standart Grand Piano sampling on this keyboard also appears fulfilling. And It is a "cute" little keyboard. However, I had to cancel it. 😐... But it is ok. I can wait. Plus, I already own two much more advanced Casio instruments he he. 😜
  4. When I was quite young, I was introduced to Jean Michel Jarre by a friend, and thus I had my Jarre - period It (the fascination of this french musician) was futhermore fueled when I saw a live event from Paris in TV with a performing Jean Michel Jarre. Here's a link to (what I think is that) concert. He had lasers on buildings, and big animated imagery was projected to huge canvases. He even had a laser-harp where he play the instrument with a glove on his hand. Each time he his glove cut off the beam the laser-harp would play the corresponding note. Amazing! Some years later I had my Michael Jackson - period. It was spurred by a classmate who got me to see a live concert with the king of pop. This period lasted some years and I accumulated all of his CD's, I believe. Then came my Yanni - period. By coincidence - or maybe it was meant to be - I saw Yanni performing live from his concert at the Acropolis. It too was broadcasted to TV. I was hooked on his music, to say the least. Here's a link to the concert recording. Ofcourse, I have heard other music than what is mentioned above. Quality pop music has always had my keen interest. Add to that jazz, blues and even classical music. So, a little peek down memory lane -I you will. The good thing about music is that keeps giving and it is a joy that lasts your entire lifetime. I think Jim Morrison has been quoted with the famous words: "Music is your only friend until the end". This will be my final line
  5. Ok, ok ok ok. I think I found a solution (cross my fingers and hope it lasts*). I took the plunge (so to speak) and updated the firmware (whoo-hooo) 🀭. No problems occured during the update proces, it was quite un-dramatic. πŸ˜‰ While the updater-application run I noticed it deleted or erased the XW-G1s memory. So maybe this erase-thing did it, huh? With this update accomplished I started testing. And lo-and-behold, the sequencer now plays in time, no breaks or break-downs πŸ₯΄. No lagging CPU, seemingly. After re-installing the ALL-DATA file it still plays as it should. Jay🎹 *No guarantees given
  6. Hi Jokeyman123 Thank you for your elaborate answer to my question. πŸ™‚ In short, as I recall it, I mainly programmed the sequencer in step edit-mode (via the edit menu), although some chords I think I input via the keyboard (but still in step edit-mode, I think). This problem with the sequencer pausing or halting playback long enough to be noticeable - and then resuming playback seems to come and go. I wanted to document this in some way, since it's a bit hard to explain what actually happens. So I rigged up a video camera to record the display since it shows infomation like tempe, measure and beat + the graphical output of the synthesizer's level meter, that shows which parts are playing. In addition to this, I hooked up the audio output from the synthesizer to the mic input of the video camera to have audio as well. The first attempts to do this were futile as it seemed the synthesizer played it's sequencer parts flawlessly. However, I now have a short video where this error occurs. First the playback is normal and then the un-called for pausing commences. And It is a preset performance I am using. Also, I had the arpeggio activated during this recording, and it too halts or pauses. It is like the instrument stumbles over its own feet - if you can follow me? I am considering uploading the video somewhere online on a platform that allows for private sharing for the purpose of solving this mystery. In conclusion, I think the problem is caused by a technical failure of the instrument, not a matter of how the sequencer is programmed. πŸ™ Jay 🎹
  7. Hi πŸ™‚ I made this user-sequence for a song that I want to play with the sequencer playing drums, bass and chords. This setup i've made makes use of all 8 patterns in the sequencer. However, when I play the sequencer patterns, or to be more precise, when I jump from pattern 4 to pattern 3 there's a noticeable break or pause in the playback of the sequencer data. It annoys me greatly since I spent quiete some time to program the sequencer. Why is it doing that? It seems that on it does this break everytime it reaches the third beat of the measure in pattern 3. I tried to disconnect any other instruments/devices connected through MIDI, in order to see whether that made a difference. It does not. So I looked closer at the trackparameters of pattern 3. The different parts have different values in the parameters step size and notelength: Drum parts 1 and 2 have 1/16 note values as step size and a 99% notelength. Drum part 3 and 4 have 1/4 note values and a 99% notelength. Drum part 5 has 1/16 note values as step size and a 99% notelength. Bass part 6 has 1/16 note values and a 100% notelength In pattern 4 the bass part 6, for instance, have 1/4 note values and a 50% notelength - for the sake of programming the bass line. So, I guess my question is - does these varying notevalues (stepsize) and notelengths in a pattern and between to patterns create this break in the playback that should not be there? Thanks! Jay🎹
  8. Thanks. I do have a dynamic mic connected to the G1 via the mic input. It works fine, albeit the volume is quite low in comparison with the output from the different oscillators. Would this firmware update 1.11 make any difference to this ? Jay🎹
  9. Hi πŸ™‚ My XW-G1 has firmware version 1.10 In the official casio description of the update from version 1.10 to version 1.11 the explanation goes like: [Firmware Update] XW-G1 - Version 1.11 Supported Models XW-G1 Improvements Provided by This Update Version 1.10 >> Version 1.11 β€’ Improved operation of the external part volume. β€’ Improved certain operation. That doesn't give me many clues as to what I gain from this update??? 🧐 Reading on this forum the experiences of others, who updated their keyboard, I understand that there is a risk of "toasting" the keyboard, making it useless - IF the update proces is done incorrectly. I don't want that to happen to my precious little synth 😬 So, should I stay (safe) with 1.10 and forget about the update to 1.11? Or is it (= read: firmvare update version 1.11) just something I can't live without? 🀩 Jay🎹
  10. Here's an improvisation i did after spending the whole day getting to know my newly aquired XW-G1. πŸ˜„ In this session I use the XW-G1 for backing and a PX-5S for melody. I am using the stage setting "4Draw Organ" on the PX-5S and the sequencer on the XW-G1 is set to "Funk D&B". It's a raw take - no mastering whatsoever. I had so much fun doing this! 😊 Jay 🎹
  11. So , just to do a follow up: Today I received the parts I ordered. Two Knob Slide Contacts - price: 2.55$ a piece (plus shipping etc.) I guess I am allowed(?) to share that I searched google with "casio XW-G1 parts" to find a vendor. Photo Below. Jay 🎹
  12. Hi pgostickman (and others). I had the same problem as you describe above, however I found a way to circumvent this. Here's how: 1. I download the file to my PC running Windows 10 2. Then I looked up the file in Explorer to change the file extension - first you have to enable / show file extensions in Explorer using the show-menu. 3. Now it appeared that the full name of the file was "PX-5S 2020-iPad.db.txt" and not "PX-5S 2020-iPad.db". Moreover, Explorer also shows that the file type is a textdocument, when it really is a database file-type. 4. So, you want to delete the .txt part of the file name to have "PX-5S 2020-iPad.db" only. Now Explorer show that the file type is a database file. 5. Next, from a clean downloaded copy (with all the pay-features of the app enabled) of the Set List Maker on the iPad, I exported the default Example Dabase to see how it is named as an exported file. In my case it was name something like "Exampledatabase 2021-04-24-10-00-00 iPad". I then renamed the "PX-5S 2020-iPad.db" file to the same format. That is, "2020-04-1 10-00-00 iPad" (as to reflect the date of the upload to the forum). However, the date and time values are not important, the format of the file-name is. 6. Now, copy the file you downloaded from this forum and renamed to the folder of Set List Maker on your iPad. 7. In the Set List Maker app, choose import database and select the file you just placed in the app folder. Then, the app prompts you and ask whether you want to overwrite the existing exampledatabase with a new one. Click yes. And - you're good to go πŸ˜€ Jay 🎹 P.S. You can rename the database inside the Set List Maker app once it is imported - for example, to "PX-5S 2020-iPad".
  13. Hi Jokeyman123 Thanks! πŸ˜€ After posting I found a website that offers parts for the XW-G1, namely the knob for a slider. All is good. ☺️
  14. Hi. I have aquired a used XW-G1 Synth that's missing a small black plastic handle on one of the sliders. Is it possible to back-order this? πŸ€” Jay 🎹
  15. I recorded a little improvisation exploring the posibilities with the stage setting Noire Grand by Mike Martin. The audio file has been normalized so don't crank your volume up to high https://soundcloud.com/jdkc/illumination
  16. Version 2.0.0

    169 downloads

Hi Mike Martin did a live seminar on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fby6I6lHfYM&feature=youtu.be On "PX-5S Programming: Analog Style Explorations". The resulting sound was incredible, and I've been looking for it as a download on this forum. It seems it is nowhere here So I meticulously tried to mimic the settings that Mike made to the sound in the Hex Layer Engine on his PX-5S until the point (at 49:32) in the above mentioned video where he saves it to memory. I would like to emphasize that this file is only an imitation - not the original. About the sound: You can manipulate the LFO using the modulation wheel. I have named the it "Analog" (as in the video). Finally, I uploaded a short audio demo of the sound. 🎹 Jay
  17. Hi I hope I am in the right forum for this, and that someone can explain this to me I've been recording my audio from PX-5S via an audio interface to my DAW software for a new song. For this recording I used the factory stage setting 7-2 "KeyUp ReedS3". First, I tweaked the quality of the sound from keyboard using the sliders and knobs. It worked out fine and I could commence recording. Later I wanted to make a new recording for this song in order to replace the first one. Again I used the sliders and knobs on the PX-5S. Only this time when I pushed Slider S1 (that controls distortion gain & distortion level) upwards not only did the sound become more distorted it also became significantly louder, as the volume output is also increased. In fact the Peak "warning light" on my audio interface was on. Why? When I activate the "monitor" setting in my DAW software this problem occurs. As soon as I deactivate "monitor" in the DAW - no problem. Also, when I just play the PX-5S using headphones alone there is no problem either - Slider S1, then only makes the sound more or less distorted, but not louder. I've initialized my PX-5S to see if that solves the problem. It still persists. So, is the increase of distortion gain and distortion levels supposed to raise the volume level as well? Thanks in advance
  18. Thanks, TSquare :) Glad you like it. Yeah I think it sounds a bit like J.S. Bach, Prelude in C major, BWV 846, but it also reminds me of Stanley Myers Cavatina :)
  19. Here's a short piece I've recorded using the phrase sequencer on my PX-5S and then just made and Audio copy of it to my thumb drive. Hope you like it
  20. Thanks, Brad πŸ˜„ This is so cool - πŸ‘ Jay 🎡
  21. Hi everyone I am new to this forum and the PX-5S. On Soundcloud.com I've come across the following PX-5S demo: Casio Music Gear@soundcloud: orbiting The accompanying text says "A new sound that is available for download at www.casiomusicforums.com for the Privia PX-5S." But where on this forum do I find it? - I've been looking high and low for this, but to no avail. Help is much appreciated! Thanks, Jay 🎡
