Anders Nilsson
Hi! Th AP-700 manual mentions on page EN-11 that you can adjust the trigger point for half pedal position. Does this mean that the pedal is not continuous but only has OFF-HALF-FULL positions?
Brad Saucier
Here's my take on what the manual says. On the AP-700, the pedal itself is continuous but the way the sound engine responds to the pedal is not. So yes, it responds as off, half and full. Because the pedal itself is continuous, it's possible to adjust the pedal position where half is triggered.
Anders Nilsson
Ok,, thanks for the reply, Brad. Now, this being the top end of Casio piano sound generation (engine is claimed to be the same as in the GP series, or is it only the samples?), maybe someone at Casio should explain if this design is by intent, oversight, or whatever. An acoustic piano is obviously continuous even though it might be difficult to modulate. More irritating is that I recently remember watching Mike Martin demonstrating a rather new piano on YT where he demonstrated by successively pressing the sustain pedal that the engine was indeed continuous. Sorry, can't find the video right now. Ok, I understand that this engine has a few years in the market by now but this is still the non-plus-ultra of Casio piano pride. Hope it gets improved to next top end model, if only for the sake of it. Or even better, someone from Casio can bring more clarity to this issue. Mike Martin
Anders, I'm not sure what your question is. The AP-700 does in fact do half pedaling and as you've found it has additional control over the pedal position trigger points which you can adjust for your comfort. The AP-700 along with the Grand Hybrid (GP-300, 400, 500) are also the only ones that offer 3 premier European grand piano sounds. Yes there have been recent advancements in our Privia line-up which offer an optional 3-pedal option and also supports half pedaling. This control is similar to what you have on your AP-700 but only has the Hamburg piano sound.

The adjustment is simply a "comfort" adjustment adjusting the "curve" of the way the pedal responds. The range is -2 to +2. At +2 the pedal needs to be depressed further before the virtual dampers are lifted. At -2 the pedal requires just a slight touch before it lifts the dampers.
Brad Saucier
Thanks Mike for clearing that up. It occurred to me today that a "curve" adjustment is probably what the manual really means. That makes much more sense.
