Vix
would there be any way to recreate this on the px5s? I read something about double oscillators (?)
Brad Saucier
Hmm. It sounds like a ring modulator and PWM to me. I would have to tinker with this one, but it seems possible to get close. The 5S can do PWM and has a ring modulator DSP.
Mike Martin
A tricky one because it is somewhat unique to the ARP. It is a pseudo duophonic sound. Two oscillators, one isn't changing pitch and they're both going into a ring modulator. You could start with a Hex Layer tone with two layers both sawtooth. On the second layer, go to the pitch page and set key follow to 0, then tune that layer (course tune -3) to an A. You'd also want to make both layers non-velocity sensitive. This is the core part of the sound. At that point you'd want to experiment with the Ring Modulator - this is a challenge on the PX-5S. It is really hard to get our ring modulator to really sound like the old ARP. I wouldn't keep it 100% wet, I'd add a good bit dry signal back in and do your best to tune the frequency to an A. Add some chorus to the overall sound as well.
