maurochefe
hello, i have a mzx500 and i bought a digital piano CDP135 now. I wanted to use the mzx500 tones and use the cdp135 as a slave controller, but it only has USB2 output. Is it possible to connect these two keyboards? maurochefe
If cdp135 had mid in out, it would be easy. If I connect the cdp135's usb to the mzx500's pendrive input, would the mzx500 recognize or could it burn the input?
Brad Saucier
Most, if not all, of the options for connecting the two are covered after the link below. The CDP-135 needs a host device.
Corneliu
That's great, but what if you want to do this through a Computer with an Audio MIDI interface like Steinberg UR22MKII? I have PX-5s that I want to use as a Master and CT-X3000 as a slave. How do you actually do it?
Brad Saucier
If you're using a computer, connect both instruments to the computer, then use your DAW software to route the output of one keyboard to the input of the other.
Chandler Holloway
If you don't have a full DAW to handle routing, you could also use free software like MIDI-OX to do it.
Corneliu
Thank you for your answers! I already played with it and it works to trigger one from another in my DAW. I still can't get the auto-accompaniement from the CT-X to follow the piano playing from PX-5S. Any ideas?
Chandler Holloway
The auto-accompaniment only responds to chords played on the CT-X itself. The CT-X series also doesn't respond to MIDI clock messages. I would suggest programming a sequence on the PX-5S and sending the MIDI note data to the CT-X to trigger sounds. You'd essentially be using it as an external tone module at that point. You can use the "MIDI In" mixer section on the CT-X to control the voice assignments and effects sends for each track if you don't want to do that in your DAW.
Corneliu
Thanks Chandler, I understand now. I was thinking I can use it as I did before with an old Yamaha SY77 and a Roland ProE, where the Roland was an arranger that could be triggered via midi by the Yamaha... I don't think the result would be the same with the sequence programmed from the PX-5S, but I will try. Thanks again!
Chandler Holloway
@Corneliu you might also try sequencing the CT-X from your DAW and just using the PX-5S for the parts you perform live. You would just have a fixed arrangement at that point, though, and you wouldn’t be able to make changes on the fly. If you go to Function -> MIDI -> AccompOut and set it to on, you can record the output of the accompaniment parts to a MIDI sequence in your DAW. The Rhythm and Accompaniment parts are all sent out on channels 9-16, so just arm those tracks to be recorded in your DAW and play your chord progression once you start the recording. Corneliu
OK, still not the same result but yes, this would be an alternate solution. Thanks again!
