  1. Right before the gig, I made some controller assignment changes. First I assigned the CV Pedal to control Portamento Time. Doing so made it easier to activate it as opposed to playing the notes and trying to get over to the Mod Wheel at the right time. Which allowed me to assign Pitch LFO Amount back the the Mod Wheel. I then set Knob 1 to Filter Cut Off, Knob 2 to Filter Resonance and Knob 3 To Delay Amount. I actually had the same idea to place the Magic Man patch on Upper 2 and detune a bit to fatten it up but that didn't match the original sound so I opted against doing that. So now, after the first section of the solo and the dive bomb, I can increase Filter Resonance and play around with the Filter Cut Off as is done in the original recording. It's a shame the Pitch Env Gen couldn't do what I had in mind, but there is always another way to pull things off. I really hope Casio comes up with an updated model of the PX-560/PX-5. I'll upload my revised settings soon.
  2. I have uploaded what I came up with. Let me know what you think. https://www.casiomusicforums.com/index.php?/files/category/23-community-created-files/

I did this late last night and plan to tweak it a bit but it is pretty close. There are two files, one is the edited tone and the other is the registration with controller assignments. Controller assignments: Mod Wheel - Portamento Rate Knob 1- Pitch LFO Depth Knob 2- Filter CutOff Frequency Knob 3- Filter Resonance Level CC Pedal- Expression My plan was to use the Pitch Envelope Generator for the dive bomb effect at the end of the solo break, but turns out it is not as functional as the AMP and Filter envelope generators. I am using the Mod Wheel to control Portamento Rate because it is easier to go from zero rate (no portamento) to the pre-assigned slowest rate (to match the song tempo). The knobs being rotary encoders that have no 'full off/full on' means it requires multiple spins to reach the slowest rate. Much easier to reach over and push the Mod Wheel all the up quickly for the big slide. Hope that makes sense. Then once the vocals come back in it's easy to add just a bit of Portamento while also adding some resonant filter sweeps behind the vocals.
  4. Absolutely. I've got to get this done prior to our Saturday night gig. I was actually going to use my CT-S1000V for this sound. I bought the S1000 to have something easy to carry to rehearsals and was able to come up with something very useable but it required activating Portamento at just the right time (pun ) and I don't trust myself to accomplish that during actual performance. Plus I couldn't figure out how to increase the LFO rate for the final line of the solo. So the PX-560 to the rescue. ADDED: Regarding LFO (vibrato) Rate on the CT-S1000V. I just went with the novel approach of looking in the manual. Seems that rate is adjustable after all. Go figure.
  5. (Originally posted on the Keyboard Corner) My band has learned Magic Man by Heart which has a short but distinctive synth solo toward the end of the song. I was trying to figure out how to pull it off since I don't happen the have a Moog System 15 or a couple of Minimoogs lying around. Then it came to me that my Casio PX-560 has 3 separate envelope generators for Amplitude, Filter and Pitch. My programming plan is this; Find a waveform that works, create a gate with a soft attack and slight release for the the Amp Env, a semi-quick decay on the Filter CutOff with a little increased resonance, and then a delayed response on the Pitch to make a dive once the key is held for a specified time. Should take all of 10 minutes if I stop to open a refreshing beverage. Now as long as the tempo doesn't stray too much my dive bomb effect should work our great. I keep trying to decide if I should upgrade my main board, but then the PX-560 shows me how capable it is.
  6. It would not be fair to compare the CT-S500/1000V or any rompler from any company to a dedicated organ clone. On the other hand, some of the organ tones in the CT-S500/1000V are certainly useable where organ is not going to be the featured sound. The rotary effect is pretty good and there are a good number of tones to choose from. But the one thing that will distinguish a rompler from a real organ every time is the percussion. On a Hammond the percussion is polyphonic single trigger. When a key is pressed, or multiple keys as long as they are played at the same time, the percussion will sound the note or notes and decay out. As long as at least on key is held down, newly played keys will not trigger the percussion sound. On some romplers it helps to gain a bit more realism to assign a percussion sound to a layer and set that layer to monophonic. this won't give you the poly/single trigger of a real organ, but at least when you do a slide up or down the keyboard, or hold a key while playing other keys you won't hear percussion on every keystrike. How hard would it be to add a polyphonic/single trigger mode to the O/S? Maybe there's just a small number of folks who know or care about this. If a feature like this was included it would definitely make the instrument stand out from the crowd, or maybe not.
  7. Thanks Andrew. I'll give that a try.
  8. Well if I want to take the easy way out. Translation, "why didn't I think of that?" Then again it would still require taking a hand of the keyboard but at least it's easier to press a physical button versus the touch screen. Thanks for the idea.
  9. Another thought. I remember a feature on one or more of the Nord keyboards from way back that would allow the mod wheel to morph between two drawbar settings. Worked well especially since the drawbuttons were not the easiest to use for on-the-fly adjustments. Maybe that same idea could be accomplished on the P-560 since the continuous controllers can be scaled with Min/Max values and even reversing the range. Just a thought.
  10. I have a gig this Thursday with a trio where I will be playing left hand bass part of the time. In fact I'll need to turn on and off the split multiple times within certain songs. Having to read charts and sing into a mic makes it hard to quickly (accurately) press the appropriate area of the touch screen. So.... does anyone know if it is possible to assign the pedal to turn the bass split on and off?
  11. I'm pretty sure you can assign the 3 knobs to control individual layer volumes. I'll have to review the organ patch I created on my PX-560 since it's been a while ago that I made it. The Knob 1 adds a 4' drawbar, Knob 2 adds a 1 1/3' drawbar and knob 3 turns on 3rd harmonic percussion. I use a dedicated clone wheel on gigs but this patch has helped a couple of times when only using the PX-560. I used the mod wheel to control rotary speaker speed.
  12. Ah ha! I knew it was somewhere. Forgot about the hex layer tone list. Thank you so much. I'm still loving my PX560.
  13. Is there a white noise waveform lurking underneath the hood that I'm not finding? Filling in with a band this weekend and need to re-create the white noise filter sweep from Edgar Winter's Free Ride. Thanks in advance, Dave.
  14. A quick thought. Can you just copy the entire preset to another location and then simply change the waveform to whatever you want?

    Frozen screen

Hi Andrew, Thanks for responding. It was one particular Hex Layer, but then I had just started and didn't continue creating others. I've done a fair amount of editing single tones as well as Hex Layers in the past and never experienced any lag between screen presses.

    Frozen screen

As gigs are starting back up after a year long C-19 break, I decided to create a few additional registrations for some new tunes. I selected a Hex Layer, Edit Tone, Edit, and then the screen was frozen. Keys played. I tried selecting another registration but as I was in edit those buttons were dead. I tapped on Escape in the lower right of the display and still nothing. Then all of a sudden the display jumped back to the home screen. I returned to editing the layers and it happened again. This time I pressed Start and a drum beat started playing and then the screen was operational again. So has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? I have a gig this Sunday night and I'm a bit worried. Thanks, Dave

    Metronome

The manual says nothing about being able to change the metronome sound. If the triangle sound that is used is also one of the playable sounds from the keyboard, you may be able to edit that sound to your liking and save the change, though I have my doubts that it would be that easy. On the other hand, why not just record a one measure sequence playing quarter notes using whatever sound you like? You can still adjust playback tempo just like the stock metronome. Problem solved.
  18. Thanks Brad. I forgot that Hex presets con be used in any of the main parts, Upper and Lower. That sort of solves it right there. 👍
  19. ADDED- I re-read your idea. Yes that would work but I'd like to be able to control strings volume separately. --- Except that I'm looking to layer 3 separate sounds. Acoustic piano, Rhodes and a string pad. Then control volume of the Rhodes and string pad by assigning expression pedal to the string pad layer and a knob to the Rhodes layer. So 3 layers, hence having to create a Hex layer. On the other hand, if there were a way to trick the lower 1/2 layers to play across the entire key range, that would solve the problem. One thought is putting MIDI to use. Connecting MIDI Out directly back to MIDI In and setting the keyboard transmit channel to 3 which is the channel locked onto Lower 1. Looking at the manual, it would seem there is no need to turn Local Off since the MIDI In channels are locked and the keyboard only transmits on a single channel. Hmm'?'
  20. Thanks Brad, that helps. I was trying to quickly throw together a layer of acoustic and tines piano along with a string pad sound at church last Sunday but realized it would take too long to try to do it on the fly. I think what I was missing was the "initialize by wave" parameter. I'll try it on my own PX-560 tonight and then load it into the PX-560 at church. Thanks again, Dave
  21. Is there a way to copy a regular preset and all of its parameters to the first layer (and second layer in the case of stereo sampled piano, etc.) of a Hex Preset in order to then add additional layers? Example: Grand Piano layered with Rhodes, Strings, and whatever else. Then control various layers with expression pedal, the assignable knobs, etc. Thanks, Dave
  22. Hi there. Below is a link to info that may help. It is from another thread and you may have already seen it but just in case... clonk here One device that apparently takes an audible pulse in and converts it to MIDI clock is the Korg Monotribe. Another device mentioned that is less $ is the Arturia Keystep . Takes an audible pulse and creates MIDI clock.
  23. Rusty, sorry to veer off your topic. So, I'm curious as to what song you are doing that requires 4ths. If it is your own tune, then never mind. But if it's a cover, I thought it might be fun to try and guess what it is. Guess #1- The marimba part in the intro to Africa by Toto. Jokeyman123, you're turn.
  24. I loved it when the drummer threw his hand up when Harry added two beats to get the crowd clapping on two and four.
