r88z88
I've been playing a Privia 330 then a 350 for a number of years, and very much like the action and piano sound, GrPno Modern being my go-to patch for live rock and roll, R&B. I recently bought a PX-5S, thinking that the action and piano sound would be the same, and it would have lots more as well. I'm finding that the PX-5S piano stage setups sound much "softer" (sound, not volume), not as bright, not nearly as much presence as the 330 and 350. If I set GrPno Modern as the Tone in the 0-0 Concert Grand setup, and A/B it with the 350, I need to crank the Hi EQ knob up to +10, and cut the LO EQ knob to -4 to sound similar to the 330/350, but still not as good (to me). Isn't it the same sample on both pianos? Is there maybe some adjustment buried in there somewhere that's taking the high end/presence out of the piano sounds? Has anyone else experienced this? In addition, the feel of the keyboard with the sound off is clearly stiffer than the 330/350, not as responsive. Maybe that's because I've played the others so much... will it loosen up some? Thank you for any insight you can offer. I'd really like to use the PX-5S as my onstage rig, but a good, realistic acoustic piano that feels good, sounds good, and cuts through, is the #1 criterion. Brad Saucier
Try going to system settings>general>touch> and set it to light. That will make a difference in how bright the piano can get based on velocity. If the action feels heavier to you, that's definitely the first thing you need to do. Mike Martin
The GrPno - Modern is essentially the same on both products. The PX-5S has damper resonance added along with some other nuances. That being said the preset tone is essentially identical. If you're hearing a difference it could only be in a few places - 1. EQ. By default this is assigned for each Stage Setting. Perhaps you started with a Stage Setting that has the EQ modified. 2. Global compressor. Have you modified this? If you select this in Master Effects you can press -/+ simultaneously to restore the parameters to defaults. 3. Filter. Some Stage Settings have Filter Cutoff assigned to slider one - moving this could have a dramatic effect on the tone.
