Thomas C.
Hi. I have owned my PX-5S for roughly four years. I love it. It has been a great stage board to control Mainstage with the comfort of having internal sounds should Mainstage fail. With that said, I have been experiencing strange issues with all knobs and sliders on the board. The volume knob works as a volume pot but also sends unwanted midi messages that change reverb, expression, eq, attack etc. My solution was to tape it in place. In addition to the volume knob issues, the sliders and knobs on the left side are completely useless and only work occasionally. These also make erratic changes when moved. Now the mod and pitch bend are doing the same. I have taken the keyboard apart and found that the volume pot connects to a completely different pcb than the sliders do. This eliminates my original theory that the slider pcb may be at fault. With the slider PCB completely disconnected, the volume pot still sends erratic midi messages. I have reset the unit a million times and have uploaded the firmware again. I am simply out of options and would greatly appreciate any direction. I really miss having volume control and functioning sliders and knobs. Thanks in advance!
Mike Martin
Thomas, To my knowledge, the volume knob is not capable of sending CC messages so this is a puzzler for me. I've never seen or heard of anything like this. I'll see what I can find out. Just curious, where are you located?
Thomas C.
Thanks for the quick response. It is absolutely a puzzler. I am in Houston. The Volume pot is working fine based on ohmmeter readings FYI. Besides, I know there is a problem somewhere else because the other faders and knobs exhibit the same symptoms. The one thing i'd like to try is to disconnect the volume knob to see if the other faders and knobs begin working fine. Thanks again! Brad Saucier
How did you determine the volume knob is sending other random messages?
Thomas C.
When adjusting the volume, CC messages would appear on the screen and effects would noticeably be present on the patches to the point where I would have to turn the power off and back on. My solution was to tape the knob at a comfortable volume (60%) and I have been gigging like that for a year. Thanks
Thomas C.
Does anyone have a schematic of the PX5S?
Joe Muscara
I don't have an answer for you, but I wanted to say hi from Houston! Three are a few of us with the PX-5S around town. Like others have said, this issue is a new one.
Freakazoid
Hi, Thomas Did you ever get to figure this out? I’m having the same issue. Thanks!
Choppin
What CCs are being triggered when you turn the volume knob? And are your sliders and control knobs having strange behavior? Is there a specific stage setting you are choosing? Are you connected to external hardware where there might be a controllers influence on the output of the CASIO?
