Chordana Play doesn’t recognize my CDPS350

I bought the CDPS350 and was told I could connect an iPhone to it via Chordana Play for Piano, but when I open the app and try to do anything it just says “Connection Error: This function requires a connection to a compatible digital piano.”  I ensured is the right app, and called Casio helpline but unfortunately they didn’t seem to know much about the product, though they did at least confirm I’m using the right wire (lightning to phone, USB-C to piano).  They had me reinstall the app and unplug the piano to reset it, but then they just said “try a different phone and call us back, your phone might be too old”.  I don’t have a different phone to test it but the App Store specifically says the app is compatible with my phone and my iOS is the most recent version.  Thought I’d come here for help because the Casio help line person just seemed to want to get me off the phone.  Thanks very much in advance for any insights.

Thanks for the input guys.  It’s a USB-C on one end (piano) and a lightning USB on the other (iPhone 7).  I can’t be 100% sure the wire is functional, I bought it online specifically for this and I’ve never used it for anything else.  Maybe I’ll order another.  I’ve heard people talk about using an iPhone camera adapter to connect, are you familiar with that practice?  Definitely willing to get any specific wire I need, I’m just sort of firing blind right now.

I reread your last post.  You have an Apple phone with a lightning port?  For that, you will need an Apple camera adapter kit plus a standard USB printer cable to connect your piano.

Thanks so much Brad!  I’ll acquire just that.  Really appreciate it, I was having lots of trouble finding the relevant info online.

Dear community,

I hope it is not against any rules here to revive such an old topic, but since my question is very much related I assume this is the best place for it.

I am experiencing some MIDI latency when using my CDP S110 to play into Garageband on an iPhone. It's an iPhone SE 2nd generation running iOS 16.1. My setup is to connect the iPhone to an Apple Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter which in turn connects to the digital piano via a USB 2.0 printer cable. Latency feels like roundabout 120 ms.

Could this be the wrong adapter? Would it make sense to try the classic Lightning to USB camera adapter instead of the USB 3 one, given the CDP is a USB 2.0 device? Could the internal conversion to USB 3 create the overhead I am experiencing as latency?

The CDP is not at fault---I connected it directly to a Mac and played the Grand Steinway built into Garageband without noticing any latency at all (an addictive experience).

The iPhone isn't at fault either---I connected it to another MIDI controller which comes with a lightning plug but which is otherwise inferior to the CDP. Didn't feel any latency there either.

Any thoughts on my adapter theory?

Kind regards,

Felix Grützmacher
