General Help

Hey I am seeking help from anybody who is willing to offer. I am trying to get a handle on this keyboard but it is a slow go so far. This is what I would like to be able to achieve (at least for now) 

1. Have one bank in the stage settings (let's say Bank 0) be selected organ sounds and have each of those or maybe 7 out of the 10 be able to have the Leslie setting. So bank 0-1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 various organs. 

2. Have each of the first stage setting in banks 1-9 be a different sound (EP, Clav. blues harp, etc) that I would use on stage each night. That way I can make it simple to select stuff on the fly quickly. So Bank 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, 4-0 etc. Is there a way to simply get the stage settings to "switch locations" rather than replacing one for another? I would really appreciate any help anyone can give me. I don't have any idea how or what to modify. I don't like banging my head against a wall trying to figure things out. If I can get the basics to get me going, that would work. I play in a Blues/Blues Rock band, so for now, just the basics will do. I can experiment on my own later.  I don't want to go buy a RotoChoir, or an RT-20 or MiniVent or such if I don't have to, but I want that type of control. Is it possible and can anybody explain how to do it. I've been told to post my issues here so everyone can benefit. So, here it is. Who's going to ride in on the white horse and save the day? My approach was not designed to bang my head against the wall. I read many reviews of this keyboard, watched numerous videos on YouTube, and made my decision to buy it based on those videos and several posters and reviewers who said that the people on the forums and Facebook can help and are more than willing to help with any issue. I have watched Mike's live chat videos, but he obviously can't cover every function of this keyboard. I am certainly not asking anybody to do the work for me, merely to explain how it's done; i.e. Hit edit>?>?>? and modify whatever parameters need to be modified. If it can't be done, then if someone will step up and say so, then I can find a work around. By someone explaining how it's done, I will be able to follow those instructions and will then understand and learn how to modify other parameters along the way. I'm trying to move my MOX8 out of the way and make this my go to board. So again I ask politely for help from anyone who can and will answer my question and point me where I need to go.

Well it's pretty much what Brad said.. the easiest way is to use the data ediotr. What you want to do is copy each sound to from the PX-5S to your computer via the data editor and then move them back in whatever order you want. Page 15 of the manual shows you how to xfer the sounds back and forth.

I would also suggest spending a few hours watching Mike's how-to videos with the PX-5S right next to you and follow along.. it will be time well spent and you will have a very good handle on how the PX-5S works after that:

SouthSeaIsland,  I'm sorry if you are having a hard time understanding how to operate your keyboard.  You asked a question and I delayed leaving my house to answer you with a short response that I hoped would help get you started.  For you, I was late leaving home to help my Mother deal with issues resulting from my Father's recent death. So, I'm sorry if my quick answer was insufficient.  

 

As Scott pointed out, virtually everything is covered in the manuals and in videos online already.   If that fails, then I or someone else will help walk you through the process.

Scott....thank you for being specific. It is much appreciated Brad had indicated to me that the U: was a designation for user tones. I did not want to change out tones, merely to add to what existed. That part I absolutely understand. My specific question that I have posted on these forums twice and on Facebook once is this: Is it possible to add a rotating speaker (Leslie) effect to any organ sound that exists on the keyboard and if so how is that done? As a for instance, in the organ tone bank overdrivOrg1 does not have the rotating speaker effect, while the very next tone overdrivOrg2 does. Is there a definitive parameter or value that controls that effect and if so can anybody tell me what that is?

Yes it is possible and here's how it's done.  (Leslie) Rotary is one of the many DSP effects that can be applied to any of the tones. You can add it to a tone by editing the tone. You'll also want control of rotary, so you will also be editing or creating a new stage setting because controller setup is done in stage settings.  Before doing anything you'll need to select the stage setting you wish to use and then use the zone buttons to select the zone you want your organ to be in and then select the desired organ tone from the tone buttons.  Now you can edit the tone.

 

To edit a tone and add any DSP to a tone press...
.....Edit, Down, Enter, >, Enter, Enter
.....Choose your effect by scrolling through the list using knob 2 or the yes no buttons (look for rotary or drive rotary in your case) and exit out to the main screen.

 

Now you'll want to control the brake of rotary speaker. A pedal can be assigned to act as a brake controller.  This is done under stage setting > common edit.  

 

This sequence of buttons gets you to pedal 1 or 2 in stage setting common editing.
.....Edit, Enter, >, Enter, >, >, >, Down until you see pedal 1 or 2 (choose the one you want) then press Enter and then enter once more for pedal 1 target screen.
       Use Knob 2 or the yes no buttons to scroll through the list of targets and choose BRAKE or SPEED depending on what you want to control. 

.....Now press exit to return to pedal 1 screen and go down to Mode and select Toggle or Momentary depending on how you want your brake to work. 

 

Now you will need to enable the pedal for the zone that all of this is on.  This is done under stage setting editing.  Press edit and go to stage setting edit.  Enter Zone edit and go down to controller and enter.  Choose your pedal from the list and turn it on.  Use the Zone buttons to switch to the other zones while you are there and turn the pedal off for those other zones.  

 

You've just created a new stage setting that isn't saved yet.  Be sure to save your new stage setting before changing to a new one or all will be lost.   Now your tone with rotary is saved inside of the stage setting. If you want your tone to exist outside of this stage setting then you will need to also save the tone individually.

Brad...first off, my sincere condolences on the death of your father. I certainly never expected you to take time away from your mother to answer my question. Family should always come first. Thank you for being specific as to the steps necessary to apply the rotary effect to any sound. That is precisely what I was looking for, understanding what was modified to create that effect. I can now closely examine that overdrivOrg2 setting and see where those parameters are set and use that as a starting point in modifying the other organ sounds. I had mentioned that I was trying to move my current keyboard out and have this be my go to stage board and was in a bit of a time crunch. I will certainly have time later to experiment with the keyboard and create many different stage settings that I can use.

This should be mentioned as well.  Rock Organ tones were not designed to have rotary DSP assigned to them.  Those tones are older samples and are actual recordings of a Leslie speaker rotating and cannot be changed.  I'm not sure why Casio of today put Drive Rotary on those tones.  I'm thinking it was just for the drive amp effect and not the rotary.   If you were to try to change the rotary speed you would not get the intended rotating effect.  The DSP rotation would fight against the sampled rotation resulting in quite a mess.

 

I highly recommend downloading JasPeter's 9 Drawbar Organ Stage Setting for the most authentic organ the PX5 can deliver.

There were only certain organs that I had intended to add the rotary effect to. I already had downloaded the Drawbar Stage Setting and have it loaded up and ready to be played around with. Too bad I couldn't download Tony Monaco's talent along with it. Lot's of great technique in that video and on his site.
