Phrase compatibility among Casios

Recommended Posts

I can guess the answer but before I waste time-are any of the PX5s files-tones, phrases, etc also compatible with any other Casio? I just noticed the PX5s uses the .ZLT format-the same letters at least used by the PX560 for hex layers. I know the sound maps are probably not the same for midi implementation and the tone architecture/design might be different. Would be nice to be able to play for example some of the user uploaded phrases into the XW or PX series. The XW-P1 has dozens of phrases I have auditioned already which are very good but if there is any cross-compatibility would be a fun way to torture myself, I'm getting bored with everything working so well......as if having thousands of sounds and rhythms already isn't enough:snax:

Now that there are several Casios that can play and create phrases, has anybody tried to see if any of these are cross-compatible between say the PX5s, XW-P1 and the newest I think the MZ series and I think the newest Privias have phrase capability. I have the XW-but don't have any other Casios with this capability. PS-I tried loading some MZ-X tones into the PX560 (I like to cause trouble yes) and no, doesn't work even though the file names are the same (ZLT, ZRM). Shucks and wah!

:waaah:

Like I need more tones in the PX-560! Guess one can never have enough......

Try it and let us know.  Nothing will be harmed.  The keyboards will simply display a "wrong data" message of some sort.  To date, the only models with user phrase memory is the XWP1/G1, PX5S, MZX300/500 and CT-X3000/5000.  CTX3000/5000 user phrase files have the PHS extension. They contain phrase sets, not just a single phrase, so they are definitely not compatible with any other model series, but may be compatible between both CT-X3000 and 5000.  MZX phrases are not compatible with any other model series, but may be compatible between both MZX models.   Same may be true for both XW models.

I'm perhaps being lazy-but are there any sections in the downloads where users have uploaded some phrases from instruments other than the XW-P1? I don't have any other Casio to compare. And again-like I need more phrases! The XW already has a pretty formidable collection, but being the instrument and data hoarder I am, ah well.....
