The computer does not search for the device using a MIDI cable

Oh no! these cables are notoriously unreliable-I've had 2 that were defective. Google this cable, unfortunately mine were not the exception.   Brad is right, windows should immediately recognize and give you some kind of prompt that you'e plugged this in, even if it isn't connected to your keyboard. And, with these unbranded chinese cables, even if Windows recognizes it and installs its driver (included in windows from XP up to 10 I believe) the cable may still fail to work. Some of these are missing components inside, or have bad solder joints that make these unusble. I've had 2 apart already, and saw this for myself. I had to switch to a branded USB midi din adapter that works perfectly with every Casio I have. Just passing it on.

That's true-but the cable should still show up as being plugged into the computer. These Chinese cables are certainly not "class compliant" more like "class complaint!"  And that's true-the midi in and out on these are the opposite of the original midi cables for din-in went to out and out went to in!  These cables-the in does go to in, the out goes to out, fooled me the first time I tried one of these that actually sort of worked, but it is a "crapshoot" as to whether the cable will work at all, I stick by my original post. I spent many wasted hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my 1) drivers 2) operating system and 3) computer before I realized the cables were defective-and more than one was like this. I have one that works, as long as i don't use it........!:hitt:
