  1. You are right about how many pianists are about how to learn the instrument. It's a complete contrast to guitar, where some people only know a few chords and never bother to learn much more. Most pianists act like you must go through full classical training. I can't speak to the specifics of what you're looking for, but you could check out Irocku.com from Chuck Leavell (long time piano player for The Rolling Stones as well as Eric Clapton and the Allman Brothers among others) and https://www.playgroundsessions.com from Quincy Jones and featuring Harry Connick Jr. among others. You could also look up Scott "The Piano Guy" Houston. He has a presence on social media as well as a web site https://www.scotthouston.com. Note that I can't say I endorse any of these, as I only have glanced at most of them. I've done one song from Irocku.com. I also have info about great online lessons for jazz, but I don't think that's what you're looking for.
  2. Thanks for the refresh, Shep. I'm sorry you're having these issues.
  3. Maybe see if there's a used model I previously mentioned that's in good shape, and transplant the action from that into your PX-5S?
  4. How is the power at your house, Shep? I wonder if the mains are a little low or dirtier than normal. If you have some sort of power conditioner that you plug a computer into, you might try it plugged into that. I don't recall if you had issues elsewhere or just at home. You could try taking one of the keyboards to another house or even other outlets in yours and see if you can replicate the issue.
  5. USB noise is an unfortunate problem a lot of keyboards have. I would believe that's unrelated to your initial issue. As far as the initial issue, I wonder if it's the headphone jack. I've seen times where working the jack by inserting/removing the plug a couple of times fixes problems. There is a physical switch in there that tells the unit that headphones are plugged in so it knows to shut off the internal speakers and sometimes that switch gets stuck. What I might suggest is that if the sound is okay through the speakers, try not using headphones for a while and see if the problem returns. If it only happens after you insert headphones we might have a culprit.
  6. I would guess otherwise. Since this action exists in numerous Casio models, there probably are replacements in the service chain or whatever they do. Whether you can buy one directly is another matter, but I would be surprised if a tech were unable to get a replacement if they needed it. The PX-5S, PX-560, and PX-360 are still listed as products on casiomusicgear.com, so they are considered "current." I would expect to be able to get them fixed for a while after they are no longer current.
  7. Nope, the action of the new PX-S line is different than the older PX models. Hence the S. I guess there is a chance that they use the same connector, and with some industrious work you might be able to mount the PX-S action in the PX-5S chassis, but I doubt it's a simple swap if it's possible at all. OTOH, a PX-160, 360, 560, CGP-700, and possibly the PX-x50 models should all be the same action and you're more likely to find a donor from one of those than a newer PX-S. Oh, and also, the Grand Hybrid uses the same connector too. I've seen someone use that action to play a PX-5S engine. If they want to reply here I'll let them do it themselves.
  8. I mean if you switch from piano to EP or something, does it still happen? I'd try a reset, but from what I understand how these things are set up, it could be in the controller or the "wiring" (ribbon, probably) to the keyboard. I hope it's still covered by the warranty.
  9. You can try a reset. Is it with all the sounds/tones or just one?
  10. I don't know why, but for all four of your audio clips it says "Error" and I can't play them. Latest Safari on latest macOS.
  11. This image shows the action in the PX-x60 series vs. the newer PX-S series. This has allowed Casio to make the overall keyboard smaller in depth, while still feeling great. The photo shows the PX-160 next to a PX-S, and you can see how much smaller the PX-S is. You can take the CGP-700 off the stand and use it that way like any of the PX-x60 models. ALL of the sounds on the newer models are considered better, pianos and all else. Some of the tech that went into the Grand Hybrid models made its way into the PX-s series, resulting in a much more expressive and realistic piano sound. The tech of the built-in speakers is improved as well. That being said, the CGP-700 has those speakers in the stand, so in some respects that might sound better. The PX-S models do sound great, though. AFAIK, all the Casio models being discussed have MIDI over USB. I'm not sure of any that don't but I could be forgetting.
  12. USB only transmits MIDI data, not audio. If you want to have the audio from the keyboard go into Logic then you'll need to connect the audio out from the keyboard to an audio input on your Mac. If your Mac doesn't have audio input, you'll need an interface. Or. you can just use the CDP-S100 as a controller and only use the sounds in Logic. There are decent pianos in there as well as third party ones available. Just turn down the volume on the CDP-S100 and listen through the computer.
  13. The CGP-700 is closely related to the PX-360 and PX-560. All three have the same keyboard action, the same chassis, and the same color touch display. (The PX-160 has the same action and similar chassis, but no display.) Casio now makes the PX-S series. These have a more compact action, a smaller chassis, and improved sounds. I'd have to refresh myself on the current prices to compare, but they are out there. There is also the CDP-S series that have a similar upgrade in features such as sounds and size, you'd probably want to look at the CDP-S350 if that's what you're interested in. The CDP-S is a bit more oriented towards home use (no 1/4" output jacks for instance).
  14. If the backlight is bad or out, you may be able to see the screen by shining a light on it. I have never tried that with a keyboard display, but I have seen it work on an old G4 iMac. If that is the case, you could bring a flashlight with you until you get it fixed.
  15. Yes, you want to turn on Auto Resume under the Function Mode. The one caveat to this is if someone changes something, it will probably be there when you next power it up. You might want to turn on Operation Lock as well so that they can't mess with it. See what works for you and anyone else using it.
  16. It's probably dirt in the sensor/contact. Brad likes to suggest blowing compressed air between the keys, though I've never tried it. If it doesn't work for you, blame him, not me! I'll take the credit if it works though. I would think blowing compressed air and working the key at the same time might be best.
  17. The SP-34 is a great unit. I highly recommend it. We finally have a pedal unit that doesn't require a stand!
  18. I have the PX-S3000 and the Sennheiser HD 280 pro headphones, and the volume sounds fine to me. I'd say that sitting in front of the keyboard, the volume through headphones and through the speakers sounds similar.
  19. I'd go with the warranty claim first. I have no idea what lubricant to use on a digital piano pedal. It might be completely different than for an acoustic.
  20. https://www.musicradar.com/reviews/casio-casiotone-ct-s1 a) They keep writing it as "CTS-1". A common mistake, but they should know better and they can globally replace. 2) Why is the contact link for Yamaha (UK)???? 😂
  21. How old is your daughter? Why do you want to purchase a keyboard for her? Does she play keyboard at all yet? If you can answer these questions and anything else pertinent to why and your goals, we can answer your question.
  22. Yes. That's so a teacher can monitor each person on the duet split.
  23. If I understand what you're saying correctly, I think you need to split the audio out from the keyboard so that you can do the rest to your phone as you did with one side of the split, and the other side goes directly to your headphones.
  24. Sorry, I'm sure the operating system of the new models is similar (doubt they'd start from zero when they had a similar model already) but if they fixed this issue it hasn't been said. Can you either describe how to make the freeze happen or make a video showing you getting to that point? I have a PX-S3000 and would like to see if I can reproduce it.
