Aeddy
Excuse me,I recently bought a used PMP-400. I want to record MIDI. But the keyboard doesn't respond. Who can help me thanks.
Solution Mike Martin Posted January 25, 2022 Solution Share Posted January 25, 2022 The PMP-400 does not have a USB MIDI port. You'd need a USB to MIDI interface of some kind.
Brad Saucier
PMP? Wow. I'm assuming the P was for professional. I see these were called "professional series". I wonder what was different to earn that title.
pianokeyjoe
The PMP series had some extra feature added to the "Tone Bank" series that was not present in those CT tonebank counter parts. For instance, the one I can see clearly, was midi in/out on the PMP300(CT380 but with MIDI). I have never seen the PMP series in person, only online and in an old Casio Catalog from 1990 or 1991.
Brad Saucier
That sounds reasonable. However, the CT-640 also had MIDI IN, OUT and THRU. Jay Levy used that one to make a tutorial video. Maybe the PMP lineup wasn't around at that point?

IanB
Standard MIDI never needs a special driver for the keyboard because it is a simple serial universal protocol which does not change from keyboard to keyboard. Either the keyboard isn't sending MIDI (is faulty) or your adapter is faulty or there is a software problem with the adapter. Make sure you have everything hooked up the right way around, it can get confusing with MIDI In and Out; the keyboard Out connects to your adapter In and the keyboard In connects to the adapter Out.

Hi @AeddyThe PMP and CT tonebank series requires YOU, to slide a slider switch around the ACCOMP section all the way to MIDI setting. It will cause the keyboard to no longer act as a normal home keyboard with beats and ACCOMP, and instead disables all that and only makes the keyboard a TONE MODULE MODE Keyboard. You can play the local keys but NOT the auto accompaniments. The MIDI MODE turns the keyboard into a 4 channel multi timberal module with reception (MIDI IN PORT)on Midi channels 1,2,3, and 4. So you get 2 note duaphonic operation if you use all 4 channels. The CASIO CZ101/1000 worked the same way, as did the HT700/HT3000/HZ600, and then the later CT670/680/PMP700. Only 4 midi channels. BUT ONLY the TONE BANK series of which yours falls into, disabled the accompaniment section and only made the keyboard tone module mode. The YAMAHA PSS480/680 also have the same setup that you press the MIDI mode and turns that keyboard into a tone module that you can play the keys but not do anything with the local panel controls... So on your software, you also failed to select PORT.. I see it as -- and needs to be a NUMBER so if you only are using ONE midi adapter, it is port 00 or 01. After you select your port number for BOTH IN and OUT, then set the midi channel of your midi track in your daw to channels 1 to 4. Also you may be required to select the PORT to, so port 00, midi channel 1, is Casio, etc.
pianokeyjoe
What Operating SYSTEM are you using and WHAT DAW software are you using? I see non of the midi channels or ports SET
Mike Martin
People commonly connect the IN/OUT ports from their MIDI interface to the wrong connections on the keyboard. OUT from the keyboard should be connected to the INPUT port on the MIDI interface.
Szo
"ONLY the TONE BANK series of which yours falls into, disabled the accompaniment section and only made the keyboard tone module mode." And In the later series - CT 470/670 etc. the MIDI mode disabled the syntheseizer function (the one with green panels) which is quite sad, because it's great feature of this keyboard. Anyway, looks like Casio PMP differs only in more "professional" colours of the buttons / sliders/case but sound is exactly the same as its counterparts.
